A Cincinnati meteorologist predicted that temperatures for Saturday are expected to top out at 20 degrees, which should make for frosty conditions at the 4:30 PM EST kickoff. Thrown in some bone chilling wind and you have some difficult playing conditions in store for both teams.
FWIW:
The Jets lead the NFL in total defense, scoring defense and pass defense. They also boast the NFL’s No. 1 rushing attack. They have the NFL’s top shutdown corner in Darrelle Revis and the AFC’s second-ranked rusher in Thomas Jones. In short, there’s plenty to like about New York's AFC Entry.
However USC product Mark Sanchez the Jets Rookie QB - the one who looked so good early in the season – when he played in <st1lace>Southern California</st1lace> like weather. When the temperature dropped, however, Sanchez struggled. He threw 13 of his 20 interceptions and just four of his 12 touchdown passes in temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Today conditions in The Queen City will not suit Mark Sanchez's game - that is for sure.
Sanchez remains a huge question mark for Jet backers. Not to mention the Jets last two wins that gained them a Wild Card spot were against two teams that played back-ups in many areas because they were already in the post season.
The Bengals – a surprise AFC North Division winner this season has a solid but not spectacular squad that does everything with mediocre or better proficiency. The Bengals feature a pair of bookend corners that are the pride of their defense, an every-down back in Cedric Benson who sat out last Sunday night's embarrassing loss by the Bengals to the Jests at The Meadowlands. Their run defense and pass rush are also above average.
The Bengal's weakness is their nothing special passing game. Veteran QB Carson Palmer really stunk up the stadium in limited action last week, he has to have a big no turnover game today if the Bengals want to aboid yet another blowout.
At home Palmer has respectable numbers, the also from USC (like Sanchez) QB threw 12 touchdown passes versus six picks at Paul Brown Stadium this season.
With the weather a factor it should come down to dueling running games, one in which the Bengals cannot give-up any 70 yard TD gallops to Thomas Jones and company. Palmer has to manage the game and keep the Bengals in it for four quarters, no small feat, for them to have a shot at advancing to the 2nd round.
Prediction:
Give me The Jets on the ML plus 115 or plus 120 if available for two units...
The Jets are just to hungry a squad in comparison to the backpedaling Bengals, who may still be dealing with the tragic death of WR Chris Henry, who was killed in a freak motor vehicle accident on Dec. 17th..
BOL to all, wil..
