A Cincinnati meteorologist predicted that temperatures for Saturday are expected to top out at 20 degrees, which should make for frosty conditions at the 4:30 PM EST kickoff. Thrown in some bone chilling wind and you have some difficult playing conditions in store for both teams.

FWIW:

The Jets lead the NFL in total defense, scoring defense and pass defense. They also boast the NFL’s No. 1 rushing attack. They have the NFL’s top shutdown corner in Darrelle Revis and the AFC’s second-ranked rusher in Thomas Jones. In short, there’s plenty to like about New York's AFC Entry.

However USC product Mark Sanchez the Jets Rookie QB - the one who looked so good early in the season – when he played in Southern California like weather. When the temperature dropped, however, Sanchez struggled. He threw 13 of his 20 interceptions and just four of his 12 touchdown passes in temperatures below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Today conditions in The Queen City will not suit Mark Sanchez's game - that is for sure.

Sanchez remains a huge question mark for Jet backers. Not to mention the Jets last two wins that gained them a Wild Card spot were against two teams that played back-ups in many areas because they were already in the post season.

The Bengals – a surprise AFC North Division winner this season has a solid but not spectacular squad that does everything with mediocre or better proficiency. The Bengals feature a pair of bookend corners that are the pride of their defense, an every-down back in Cedric Benson who sat out last Sunday night's embarrassing loss by the Bengals to the Jests at The Meadowlands. Their run defense and pass rush are also above average.

The Bengal's weakness is their nothing special passing game. Veteran QB Carson Palmer really stunk up the stadium in limited action last week, he has to have a big no turnover game today if the Bengals want to aboid yet another blowout.

At home Palmer has respectable numbers, the also from USC (like Sanchez) QB threw 12 touchdown passes versus six picks at Paul Brown Stadium this season.

With the weather a factor it should come down to dueling running games, one in which the Bengals cannot give-up any 70 yard TD gallops to Thomas Jones and company. Palmer has to manage the game and keep the Bengals in it for four quarters, no small feat, for them to have a shot at advancing to the 2nd round.

Prediction:

Give me The Jets on the ML plus 115 or plus 120 if available for two units...
The Jets are just to hungry a squad in comparison to the backpedaling Bengals, who may still be dealing with the tragic death of WR Chris Henry, who was killed in a freak motor vehicle accident on Dec. 17th..

An error filled game, w/the hated Jets winning 13-9, much to my chagrine! Rex "The Asshole" Ryan will run his mouth yet again. Like father like son.

I actually wouldn't be that upset to see the Jets get eliminated as I have never been a fan of Buddy Ryan or his offspring Rex. A pair of blowhards IMO.

Unfortunately I can't see the Bengals knocking them off today regardless how I feel about Coach Ryan Jr. I know I already wrote a long winded write-up on this game but I want to add that if the Cincy Offensive Line can keep The Jets blitzers off Carson Palmer then the Begals stand a good chance of advancing.

Marvin Lewis and his staff have a big challenge in coming up with a sucessful pass protection scheme that will give Carson Palmer enough time to locate an open receiver (especially on third down and in the Jets Red Zone). The entire country knows Ryan is going to bring everything including the kitchen sink on passing downs in a effort to rush or sack Palmer. The heat is also on Bengal receivers, they have to hold on to catch-able balls or it's a waist of effort to protect Palmer in the first place.

Ryan naturally is running his mouth for the NY press, calling The Jets favorites to win Super Bowl and ripping the Bengals in a fiery speech yesterday Ryan blasted the Bengals for making excuses after getting blasted 37-0 last Sunday night. The Bengals pointed out that they rested All Pro RB Cedric Benson and didn't use many of their inside power runs. The passing game consisted of very little motion by the receivers. Defensively, they didn't unleash their Double A-gap blitz, where two linebackers blitz the center-guard gaps.

Today is a different story as Marvin Lewis will pull all the stops to avoid the dreaded one and done label teams that lose their first and only playoff game are tagged with.

The Jets will pound the ball, then go to their version of the Wildcat as a changeup and hope Mark Sanchez doesn't have to throw more than 20 times against the Bengals' two savvy DBs, Leon Hal and Jonathon Joseph. Braylon Edwards and the other Jet receivers will have their hands full getting open against this secondary under the expected conditions. More reason for the Jets to run the ball as often as possible.

Ochocinco's strength is getting off the line but those first five yards are where Jets All Pro CB Darrelle Revis earns his pay. Key match-up for Bengals offense is Ochocinco Vs Revis. The Jet All Pro CB is favored to come out on top against the overrated Ochocinco.

Bengal blocking back Brian Leonard has been pretty good at picking up blitzes but the Bengals are still going to be forced into a lot of max protection sets where they can only send two men out for Palmer to locate. Of course if Benson with his O Line can consistently run the ball things will change quite a bit as the Jets will have to move up a safety to stop the run giving the Bengal speed receivers a chance to break one...

Mark Sanchez is still the key any way you look at it, the Bengals have to somehow make Sanchez have to play exceptionally well to beat them and shut Ryan up. That won't be easy. They must stop the Jets running game so the game depends on Sanchez.

In a way I am looking forward to the Jets playing a real powerhouse if they win today. Depending what happens in Foxboro tomorrow the Jets next opponet will be either San Diego or Indianapolis on the road next weekend. Lets see what Rexi boy has to say about either of those teams when or if the time comes.

I know the total is low but I don't see a game between two teams that should be lower then these. Take the matchup, game plans and weather and I don't see this thing hitting 30 points.

wil, best of luck. IMO one huge factor you are missing here is.. the Jets showed their hand last week. Carson will be more comfortable after seeing them exotic blitz packages n coverages already once. I believe the Jets have a record of 0-3 this year when playing a team for 2nd time and that's possibly a big reason why. not putting down you or your pick, just some food for thought. :toast:

No worries - this game is kind of unusual, as normally a team with a QB like Sanchez playing on the road in his first NFL PLayoff Game would be getting more points. I think this is going to be one of those games won in the trenches and that in short is why I like the Jets, they simply are stouter on both offense and defense in the trenches..

Figuring out how the cold and possible wind will influence the outcome of this game is virtually impossible. The only thing easy to figure is that the cold will have an impact on both teams, how severe an impact is anyone's guess.

My guess is the late start will make for even colder conditions in the second half which will be played under the lights most likely.

May the best team win..

I can see a defensive TD pushing the final total to 37.
FWIW, I teased down the number to 26.5 and went over.

FWIW- It was just as cold at the Meadowlands last week as it will be in Cincy this afternoon.
