I have about 2k saved up, and instead of paying off debt I want to do to something big for my life...

My two choices are start my non profit or get engaged...

NONPROFIT:

My goal for 2009 was to start my non-profit. I made TERRIFIC money in 2008, and thought it would continue, I work in sales. I was very wrong.

Still, I want to help underprivledge kids.

I want to give them some of the basics. I think to start, I want to make sure that senoirs get a senior yearbook. They are now $65+ and I know some don't get one simply because they cant afford it. Everyone should have a senior yearbook to look back on.

I also want to help with younger kids being able to go on field trips. I personally missed out several because my mother couldn't afford to send me. Also, I would like to be able to provide school supplies, christmas presents, ect..

Down the road, I really want to encourage student athletes to continue doing sports instead of quitting to work. I quit football because i felt I needed to work to survive. I am not sure how to do this, but this would be a much later goal. As well as providing sports equipment to those in need, and eventually college scholarships.

I know they take alot of time and work to establish. But I am dedicated individual and rather business savy. I THINK I have what it takes for it to be successful.. with that said, I would hate to put in all the time and money necessary just for it to fail, but this is something I feel like I must try at some point in my life. If it is successful, I will get back my investment and make a little extra doing this.

MARRIAGE:

Really it's just a matter of time before I get engaged. I don't have any doubts that the girl I have been dating for 2.5 years is the one I will be very happy with for the rest of my life. I have told her that engagement is not that close because of financial reasoning, and well quite simply, things are great between us, we will just let it happen instead of forcing the issue. She seems to be very content with that.

Also, if I told her that I rather use this money to start the non profit, she would understand because she knows it something that I have always wanted to do. Still, the argument to this is this will definitely happen within 18months. I may not have that money for a downpayment on a ring later, so I feel like I should use that money now for something that I know will be successful.

QUESTION:
I would love to get your guys opinion on which I should do. I have brought it up before that I am ready to married, and I have heard all the remarks, so it's NOT about convincing me to NOT get married. That will happen regardless, the question I am presenting to you is Do I use this 2k I have now to start my nonprofit NOW or get engaged NOW?

Might as well plug this to:

I once worked for Mounted Memories, the sports memorbilia company, and started my own collection... I am willing to sell ALL my pieces to raise money for a ring... I posted the pieces in the Bookie Chit Chat forum.. Here is a link http://www.therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=719612

Still, this post is about which is a better and smarter move for me

Maybe you should use the 2k to pay down your debt right now and think about the non profit a little later - I'd never use the 2k for a down payment for a ring if that's all I had saved up

Well if you get married your setting yourself up for a non profit. Plus if your getting laid now you won't be in 6 months. SO I would go help out a kid and feel good about yourself. Plus what kind of girl is going to want to commit to a guy that spends only $2000 on a ring anyway. She will only get like $200 from the pawn shop when she goes to hock it and take you for half your stuff.

Sing it brotha.
Ask any guy that after the gets married the sex gets reduced by 50%.
Q? Why is the bride smiling when she is cutting the wedding cake?
A? Because she knows she'll never have to give another hummer again.

You have debt and no savings and you want to spend the 2K to start a nonprofit? Why don't you just save the money and donate your time to the things you believe in by volunteering. There are plenty of nonprofits. Donate your time.

As for marriage, basing your decision to get engaged on what to spend the 2K on seems rather bizarre.

Even jewelers who have billionaires for customers will say there is very little difference in quality once you move past the $40 to $50k range, when speaking candidly

Nonprofit, I have always heard that help people will bring a lot of things back to the ones that gives to the ones who needs… as a matter a fact, I’ve seen it happen. But just a thought, why don’t you find some other way to help underprivileged kids but in a different way… also will be a way that the help will be more useful for them in the future and the most important, you don’t have to spend your savings on it. Let’s say that you find a government institution that helps underprivileged kids on a different way. Maybe there is a scholarship program where you pay monthly ‘’X’’ amount of money soy a few kids will stay in school and don’t have to work instead because there families don’t have enough money to send them to school. That will help those kids on a long term.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
That way you can keep the savings and if you want and if it is financial rentable, pay down your debt, or at least cut it down a bit. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
The ring…., its just a material thing.., and it seems that your commitment its stronger that just a ring, buy a normal and decent ring and stay together until you definitely want to sign the papers. (Just another social thing and formality, there is no need to sign papers for love!)<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Encouraging students athletes will be great we will see great games in the future thanks to you!!..<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Thinking in the ones that are not as lucky as we are, make as better persons<o:p></o:p>
