FORMER NBA GREAT KARL MALONE LIKES HIS FLOOR CLEAN

Thursday, January 7, 2010, 10:09 AM EST [General]

Karl Malone likes clean floors.

Especially the one named after him at Louisiana Tech.

The former NBA star, who helps support his good friend, Louisiana Tech coach Kerry Rupp and his program, was so upset with Nevada dragging its own stools onto the court during timeouts on Saturday night that apparently he physically removed them and tossed them in the dumpster at halftime.

"I saw Karl Malone at halftime walk over and pick up about six stools behind our bench," Nevada play-to-play man Ryan Radtke told FOXSports.com on Wednesday afternoon. "He then walked to the tunnel, which leads to outside, and didn't come back with them."

Apparently, Malone paid in excess of $75,000 for the new floor – called the Karl Malone Floor - which had recently been resurfaced in December. The Hall of Famer was upset about the metal at the bottom of Nevada's stools providing scratch marks.

Malone, who has a seat directly opposite the visiting team's bench, asked Nevada's director of operations to keep the chairs off the floor. Nevada continued to use its own furniture, and when the Wolf Pack came out for the second half, their stools had disappeared.

"Our chairs were plastic," Nevada coach David Carter told FOXSports.com. "When we came out in the second half, they were gone. So we had to use the chairs on the bench and bring them onto the court – and unfortunately, they were a lot heavier and may have done more damage to the court."
