i had heard the word "scalp" thrown about, but didn't really know what it was today until i looked it up. since i just looked it up today, that means it'll probably take at least a couple months for me to truly get the hang of it. from what i understand, it's basically betting against yourself at odds that guarantee a profit. to do this, one must have more than one out.

sharp. what the fuck is a sharp? i would venture a guess by saying that a sharp is someone who will take a guaranteed $20 profit before risking a $100 on a -110 bet.....a sharp also uses more than one out.

square. what the fuck is a sqaure? i would venture a guess by saying a square would pass up a $20 bill for a 50/50 with a $100 bill....repeat the process until broke and butt hurt. a square will often use just one book and accept the odds available. also known as a degenerate.

middle: an attempt to bet 2 sides of the same game in the hopes that both may win. an understanding of line moves is a must.

coin flippers: me

handicapping: pays off in the long run. perhaps the best insurance against going broke, as long as one does not get stupid.

getting stupid: getting your asshole kicked through your teeth because you bet too much on game one, and doubled on game two. when will you learn?

money management: your real life spending will reflect how you manage your gambling money. if you're compulsive at wal mart, you're gonna go broke betting.

ok......now for a cool closing phrase......

"we're all victims of......the razor's edge"

OK - you got me SD - what the hell is

The Razor's Edge ????

It sounds like something Rob Ray (former Sabres "enforcer") would say.

[ arb and scalp are the same thing... ]

  • Middle and Arbitrage Bets
These strategies involve differences in the lines on the same event at different books.
A "middle" bet, which is when a player finds two books that offer different point spreads for the same event, involves betting the more favorable spread at both books, and if the final score falls between the two, the bettor will win both bets.
On the other hand, if the total falls outside of the range of the "middle" the bettor only loses a small percentage of a bet (the "juice" or "vig" taken by the house).
For example, Sportsbetting has Team A as a 6.5 point favorite, and 5Dimes has team B as a 7.5 point underdog. If a player bets Team B at 5Dimes to cover the spread, and Team A at Sportsbetting to not cover, he will win both bets if the score ends with Team A winning by 7 (which is very common). If not, the bettor wins one side and loses the other, only losing the sportsbook's commission.
Another strategy, known as arbitrage, or an "arb" or "scalp", involves finding different moneylines for the same event.
In this case, the bettor will bet the more favorable line at both books, and have a guaranteed profit. For example, if Sportsbetting considers Team A to be worth +110 (2 to 1 underdog), and BetUS considers Team B to be worth +110, a bettor can bet Team A at Sportsbetting, and Team B at BetUS, and guarantee a substantial profit. This is a no-risk bet, as the player is guaranteed a profit no matter the result of the game.

In the late 70s, I used to make $500 per day off locals scalping baseball. I always ended up getting stiffed by someone.
