Clippers rookie Blake Griffin's season is over. Then again, it never really started for the star-crossed Clipper. The Clippers announced today that the power forward experienced some "discomfort in his recently accelerated rehabilitation program" and will require knee surgery, meaning he will be out for four to six months.
The No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft last summer suffered a stress fracture in his left kneecap in the Clippers' final preseason game in October, and had only recently been cleared to increased his workload, late last month. The Clippers had hoped he would soon be able to practice.
The team said, in a statement: "It has been determined that the healing in his left patella area has not improved to the expected required level."

have a feeling injuries are going to trouble him throughout his whole career.

To be fair, I don't think Blake can receive the Oden label unless he suffers a major injury next season as well. This sounds like a case of the Clippers training staff rushing him too quickly through the rehabilitation process and it backfired on them. Hopefully, he'll treat his body properly in the offseason.

Man, and wasn't it the day before the season was going to start when he got hurt? Now out for the year..that's rough.

Blake Griffin will never play for the Clippers. They drafted him without looking at his history of bad knees.

The LA Clippers have agreed to trade All-Star forward Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons, league sources told ESPN.
The Clippers will receive Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, and a first- and second-round draft pick, league sources said. The Clippers are also sending Brice Johnson and Willie Reed to Detroit alongside Griffin, sources said.
Protections on Detroit's 2018 first-round pick include 1-4 in 2018, 2019 and 2020, and unprotected in 2021, per sources.

Sources say Los Angeles will continue to discuss dealing Lou Williams and DeAndre Jordan, with a plan to focus on young players and draft picks while competing for a playoff spot this season.
Pistons center Andre Drummond welcomed Griffin on Instagram.

A free agent in the 2017 offseason, Griffin met with team owner Steve Ballmer, president and coach Doc Rivers, special consultant Jerry West and several players at Staples Center in a celebration of his career. At the end of the two-hour fete, Griffin rose and spoke, telling teammates, his coach and the owner, "I want my legacy to be a Clipper."
This season, Griffin is averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 33 games for the 25-24 Clippers, who are in ninth place in the Western Conference, 14½ games behind the Golden State Warriors entering Monday.
His career averages are 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
Griffin's career has been marred by injuries. After being drafted with the first pick in the 2009 NBA draft by the Clippers, Griffin broke his left kneecap, had surgery and missed the entire 2009-10 season.
The following season, officially his rookie year, Griffin was selected as an All-Star, won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year.
Since then, he has missed time with back spasms, a torn left quad, a broken hand, a staph infection, right knee surgery, a broken toe, a sprained left MCL and a concussion. He missed 21 games in 2017 and 47 in 2016.
Of the players going to the Clippers, Harris is averaging 18.1 points per game and 5.1 rebounds. He posted a farewell message on his Instagram account.

Griffin is just a P0S, he broke his hand punching out the equipment boy at a restaurant right? He is almost a cripple now and will blow out 1 of his knees for good any day.

He's their most known player but Lou Williams has easily been their best player this year, especially when factoring in durability. His offensive #'s are off the charts.

Hopefully they trade him and Jordan too. Bradley/Tobias for Blake is not that bad for them, those guys fit their team well if they keep them. Williams/Jordan/Bradley are all FA's after the year so they may deal them if they don't expect to re-sign them. A lot of speculation they're going to continue dealing guys before the Feb 8th trade deadline.

I didn't expect them to trade Griffin this year but I definitely think it was the right move to trade him. His contract is massive and he can't stay healthy.

Add Blake Griffin to the list of players you can never win with along with Westbrook, Carmelo, Cousins
