I was actually thinking of donating some money to the Haitians until I heard this

On the news they reported that some Dominicans loaded up a truck with food and supplies and they were crossing the border into Haiti. So what do the Haitians do? They attack them, steal the food and kill the driver.

As far as I'm concerned people like that can go fuck themselves.

Can't figure why the food isn't just dropped from the air. Would be quicker if anything.

You can't imagine when people are starving and anarchy begins to take root. Could have been the prisoners that escaped the prison that completely collapsed in the earthquake. Thousands of murderers, rapists, assasins, thieves, etc. are now free and terrorizing the helpless. Make the $10 donation. You'll feel better about yourself!

Text "Haiti" To 90999 and it will just be added to your phone bill. It's easy, quick and automatic. Do the right thing!

Because there would be a stampede and the strong, men particularly, would crush and step on the weak, women and children, to get to the food. You'd have hundreds trampled to death.

You aren't donating because there are some criminals in a country of 10,000,000.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. In your bed. In your home. In America.

I love America. This is truly the greatest country in the world.

I wish Haiti the best but I really wonder if this isn't some sort of way for nature to balance itself out.

That country is a mess and it won't get better ever.

I wouldn't let the actions of a few criminals stand in the way of helping all the good people that live there....

Yeah, because if thousands of vicious American criminals were left to wander the street in the wake of an unheard of catastrophe, nothing like this could ever happen...

Oh wait.

Haiti is the asshole of the Western Hemisphere.
Poverty, corruption, little education.
Money isn't gonna change a thing.

Papa Doc, Baby Doc.....it will never end.

Everything has to be goods and doled out.
When International Aid leaves it will revert back to the shithole it is.

I feel very sorry for the people who live there.

I feel bad for the victims of the quake. However I am sick of the government being quick to donate millions in aid for foreigners in need when we have millions in need in our own borders.

i agree that we need to do more at home, i feel it's a disgrace the way some people have been forgotten in this country (particularly vets). BUT we do have the ways and means to help people both foreign and domestic... that's what makes this country great. the only problem is we don't always choose to do it.

Correct. If food were dropped in the government would find a way to confiscate it and sell it back to the people. That's how they've been doing things for quite a while down there.

It isn't just a band of rogue thugs who may have escaped from prison. It's the way the whole island operates under the thumb of the dictator.

My pastor at my church yesterday had a direct connection to a Hatai Relief Fund and no it was not to his hip pocket. If we donated it would go directly to the Relief Effort and not have in his words "Any Administrative Charges" deducted off the top. I trusted his jugement and his integrity so I gave $20. I figure you can get a case of bottle water at any dollar store for about $3 and some change so I felt like I donated six cases of bottled water or 144 individual bottles of water.

Amen! Foreign aid makes up approximately 30–40% of Haiti's national government's budget. The largest donor is the United States and this is before the quake.

In reality we really don't. Think of how much debt we owe other countries. Our standing in the world is mainly based on name brand recognition. We can't handle our issues within our borders so we should have no business handling problems outside of them.

right, because issues outside our borders don't affect us... oh, wait.

i'm not sure about you, but I had $20 that i felt I could live without, and I imagine a lot of other folks do too - so if your argument is we don't have the money to help others (be they domestic, or otherwise) i would disagree. even better, the $20 i gave to the fund for haiti won't stop me from continuing to give to local issues.
