With apologies to Wilheim, the two guys I read religiously here in the football forums are Boxslayer and GoSooners...Their in-depth analysis of college and pro football is amazing...Great insights and stats to back up what they like...

There are no bullshit words like lock, game of the century, or 200 star picks or units...they dissect the upcoming games and handicap them in a professional manner...I like these guys because they analyze from the gut rather than spens 5 minutes giving you useless ATS statistics which are overrated....You guys do a great job...:toast:

I Think, Box Does Not have a Good Overall record with NFL. Now NCAA is a Different story.

As far as GoSooners......I also Read his Write-ups every week.

I agree long writeups tend to be overrated. The one thing I will say is you can tell who actually understands sports & can break down games to the actual x's & o's along with understanding the emotional angles when wagering. The two mention understand that & are of the very few who do on here.

And EGD is pretty sharp on smaller conference colleges.

I am just a part timer due to the time constraints placed on me by my job. I usually just try my hand at big games such as NFL playoff, World Series, NCAA Final Four and the like. My major problem is I have always taken a lot of time to handicap just a single game.

I believe the reason is when I handicapped games nearly everyday in order to wager on sports for a living there was no Internet available to supply me with the important information my capping method needed to do well.

I was forced to use newspapers like The Sporting News, USA Today, crib sheets like The Gold Sheet, The Sports Reporter or Pointwise and others to glean stats that these days are a mouse click away and in most cases free.

I never used the sheets for their picks but many had hard to find information contained in their pages. The Gold Sheet was an especially indispensable tool back in the pre Internet era..As was The Sporting News for baseball. Every baseball season I would receive The Baseball Guide before the season began.

The stats in The Sporting News included crucial right handed and left handed performance histories for both player and teams. I remember setting up shop in the Mirage Race/Sports Book at one of the well lit tables in the back with my briefcase filled with publications that I would scour for clues to one of that days ball games. I used to work with a large magnifying glass to read the fine print type face that stats were printed in.

The Baseball Digest (a monthly publication, The Sporting News is still printed and published weekly) was another excellent source of information,

That type of handicapping required hard work and discipline but believe it or not I didn't do to badly for the few years that life itself didn't intervene and force me to get a real job...
