Anyone else think Childress could be in trouble for the way they finished that game

I am obviously talking about regulation time.

I know in the past he has had some heat. I have no idea what they think of him nowadays but have to believe the heat just got turned way up after that ending.

That had to be one of the worst last minute of clock management I have ever seen in a football game. Everyone looked confused.

Sure Favre's play was boneheaded but how in the world did they even get in that situation? Weird!!!

They tried to confuse the Saints with who they were putting on the field. That caused the 12 men on the field penalty. Im sure they thought they would never call it with less than a minute in the game and the fact the Refs hadnt called anything against them in the previous 59 minutes.
After that yea they fell apart.
That last catch by New Orleans would have been reversed in a regular season game. he bobbled it the whole way to the ground and never had possesion...

Had a little over a minute left and they went backwards. Took themselves out of field goal range.

I don't usually second guess coaches (too many people do and its too easy to do) but I can promise you he gets a lot of blame in Minnestoa for this.

The play calling when the Vikings were on the 32 yard line with a 1st and 10 with two time outs and 1:07 to play was atrocious and that comes from Childress. He called two line plunges and let the clock run down to 19 seconds which put Favre in the 3rd and 14 where he rolled out and threw the interception instead of running straight ahead for positive yardage and leaving a makeable FG length. Childress won't be in trouble but his play calling and clock management in that last minute cost the Vikings a trip to the Superbowl even with 5 turnovers.

I agree, you can't put your team in a 3rd and long situation like he did. Favre had no choice but to throw, because if he doesn't, FG doesn't even get attempted. He was open for the run, but was running on one leg and probably only gets 3-5 yards at best. Too conservative after crossing 50 yard line

Great point OMT. You summed it up much better then I did.

Red Eye,
exactly!!! Somehow you try a field goal and do what it takes to get in posistion. You just have to give yourself a shot. Blame favre? for sure but some of Childress responsibilites were in there also.

This has to sting badly for Vikes fans.

i think he was trying more to keep the clock running and gain a few more yards on the ground for a shorter FG.....didn't want to give the ball back to breeze....

the killer was the penalty, as it turned a 50 yarder into a 55 yarder....

your right thats what he was trying to do and thats part of the issue. He was acting like a 50 yarder was a 20 yard chip shot. :ohno:

You have Favre throw on 1st and ten when NO doesn't have any idea whats coming and also are trying to guess if Minny is going to run the clock. Childress is a idiot.

I could have sworn I saw Herm Edwards consulting with Childress on how to proceed. Straight out of Pittsburgh.

If they let the clock run down to 6 seconds on Third down and kick the 50 yard FG. 1) you make the FG and go to the Super Bowl 2) bad snap or something goes wrong you get another chance on 4th down. 3) worst case scenario you go to Over Time.

But Favre gave the Vikings a chance to win on a 50 yard FG to go to the Super Bowl or worse go to Overtime. Childress is to Blame in every way in my opinion. Worst coaching ever. The 12 man in the Huttle would not of happened and the Favre INT would not have happened.

YEs
The man is the OC
He calls the plays
he called a timeout and then has 12 man in the huttle, 5 yard penalty, out of FG range

fucking idiot

I've seen him employ the same strategy at least ten times.
Once he is in field goal range to take the lead late the game, he goes into his "play not to lose" mode. Run the ball, eat the clock and kick the field goal. I'm shocked that he didn't run it again on 3rd down and rely on the kicker to make a 50 plus yarder.
