the NFL really needs to go to college OT rules. everyone complains about the BCS being unfair but to basically decide a game on a coin toss is far far worse imho yet people never ever complain about it. i bet it gets looked at this summer

a decent return, 1 completion, a penalty - end of game. lame.

BCS is worse by far. Remember, the defense can make plays too. Its about 50/50 with winner of coin toss winning, nothing significant to cry about.

Early 1990s it was the WLAF that had the OT with the first team to score 10 or more points wins. Played like the NFL OT but a team had to score 10 or more to win. Anyone remember or like that?

I'm sure the stat before OT was that the team that wins the toss is 7-6... hardly decided on the toss.

"Over the past five years, the team that has won the coin flip has gone on to win the game over 61 percent of the time. "

quoted from someplace else maybe outdated but recent article
thats a HUGE advantage

the BCS gives the scheduling issue excuse, what excuse is there NOT to change NFL overtime?

There is nothing to change. Teams are playing exactly the same kind of football they were playing for 60 minutes. Defensive and offensive football ! Vikings had plenty of chances to stop them, including special teams. Green Bay lost with the ball two weeks ago

Thought you were going to say the BCS, or the NFL playoff system.

Jets almost made the Super Bowl. Nuff said.

As for NFL OT. Is it perfect? No. But as with most "controversies" in sports, fans & media complain too much. Too much tinkering with the rules. Just play the damn game!

Funny that you casually mention a "decent return". As if the Vikings aren't responsible for allowing a return to the 40-yard line?

And I forgot. Why didn't the Vikings kick a game-winning FG in the final seconds of regulation? Oh, that's right.

i dont care who won tonight. you guys attack me talking about the vikings like i give a fuck.

if you dont see a problem with a coinflip giving one team a 3-2 advantage then theres something wrong with you

to be honest, i dont even care much for the NFL or how they run it, but it could be done better.. and id bet money it gets changed after happening in a bigtime game like this

that's the point of the coin flip!!!! it's supposed to give you an advantage.....i'd be willing to bet that the team who wins the coin flip in CFB prior to OT has a higher win percentage as well.....what next, eliminate home field advantage in playoff games?

Put up the money, I bet they don't change it ! BTW the team is kicking off. What do you think the average starting position is for team receiving the kickoff ? Somewhere around 25 yard line I would guess. Not enough to fall over and say the game is over. Stop the team from gaining 40+ yards ! and get the ball back
