fed strengths: net game, patience, hitting the ball when on the run, mental toughness
weaknesses: hates long rallies, has improved but still unforced errors, backhand is defensive
ali strengths: net game, big serve.
weaknesses: backhand, stamina, unforced errors, not a powerful forehand
stamina concern
with 2 b2b 5 setters and exhaustion in the 4th set vs the joker, there isn't much left in the tank for the ali lookalike. fed on the other hand has cruised through with only 2 - 4 setters and the rest str8 set victories
another thing that ali tried is the drop shot against the joker. that won't cut it against fed who loves to hit while running- maybe the best in the game for that trait and he fed loves coming to the net so it is a lose lose situation.
though ali did beat fed - the stamina and unforced errors is too big a concern this time around. i hope tsonga will be in better shape and cut out his mistakes come wimbledon where a serve and volley style might just win the whole tourney for him, but at this point little no chance tonight.
that being said...i love him first set. he has a wicked serve and like the last game fed sat back on davy and figured him out after losing the first one.
my guess is fed could do the very same thing
i have futures on a murray to face and beat ali in the finals (20-1 and 28-1 respectively) so no doubt i am hedging out on this one
