McKinnie dismissed from the Pro Bowl

By Mark Craig
January 30, 2010
FT. LAUDERDALE -- Vikings offensive tackle officially has partied his way out of the Pro Bowl.
A league official just told me that McKinnie has been dismissed from the NFC team and will not play in Sunday's game.
He missed four of the five practices and attended only one team meeting all week.
We'll have more on it later.

Viking kicked off of NFC squad

Why even go if you don't want to play? Typical Viking player...
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie has been dismissed from the NFC Pro Bowl team for unexcused absences.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The NFL said McKinnie missed practice Friday and Saturday and is subject to a fine. His agent didn’t respond to messages seeking comment.
This was the first Pro Bowl selection for McKinnie, whose Vikings lost to New Orleans in the NFC championship last Sunday.
Defensive end Julius Peppers also had an unexcused absence Friday, but was back at practice Saturday.
Since the rosters for Sunday’s game in Miami were first announced, more than a dozen players have been scratched.

From the Vikings play by play annoucers blog

SATURDAY
BITS AND BOREDOM ...

If BRYANT MCKINNIE missed Friday's Pro Bowl practice due to a legitimate reason that has not surfaced then everything's cool. Until then, though, my reaction after reading it in the Strib this morning was, man, please remember "It's all about the U" not "All about U."
Even if the Pro Bowl is a dumb game few watch it's a league-cred honor to be declared and voted a starter. McKinnie was slated to start at LT tomorrow and instead has been fined by the NFL for flat skipping Friday's practice. I am sure that practice is real difficult to get through. Probably a lot of intense meetings and film sessions for this game, right?
It's a slap in the face of the NFL to not realize the privilege it is to be included in a Pro Bowl and at least faking your way through a Friday practice never should be a problem. Supposedly Thursday night into Friday morning he was at something called Mansion Miami, a chic club where many where getting their groove on. Nothing wrong with that. In fact given there is no Pro Bowl-related curfew stay out until 4 a.m. and awake all the way up to Pro Bowl practice. But show for the freaking practice. Respect the honor of players against whom you battle thinking highly enough of you to make you a starter in this game.
The week of embarrassment continues for the Minnesota Vikings.

How much does a guy get paid for playing in the Pro Bowl? How many houseboat parties would that money pay for?
