Lincecum asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were exchanged two weeks ago. Little progress has been made toward a compromise. "I think that's the direction (a hearing) they've wanted this to go from Day 1," said the ace's agent, Rick Thurman, "simply because there's been little or no discussions with regards to a contract."

Lincecum asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. They already appear destined for a hearing, one that Lincecum will surely win, but multiple sources have told Urban that San Francisco's young ace has dismissed several two-year deals from the club. Proposing a two-year deal is telling, not only because he will have two more years of arbitration after the contract, but it may play into concerns about his durability. That's pretty much the only leg the Giants have to stand on when a pitcher wins consecutive Cy Young awards, but this could get more contentious than they would have hoped.

Give him the $13 million he deserves, arbitrator. He has won two consecutive Cy-Young's, what else can you ask for as a fan, owner, or bettor?

they need to understand that in an open market this guy would be making 20 mil or more...i know its arb so the player wont get that big of $$ but they are low balling the shit out of him trying to get him for 8 mil...if they go to arb hearing he gets whatever he is asking for...he got them 2 cy youngs and he is the reason ppl still go watch that team...doing shit like this will likely piss him off and he might hold it against them when he is a free agent...

He is worth well over the 8 million they are offering. I did read on mlb.com that some "experts" say that it will likely not go to arbitration.

The "experts" think they will come to an agreement at 11 million. Again, like makaveli points out, if he feels he is disrespected, it will be tough to keep him in SF for much longer when they negotiate a contract.

Give the kid the money!!! He has earned it! Look at the other contracts to pitchers out there. He is better than AJ Burnett Who gets 16mil a year. He is better than Dice K who never proved shit in the bigs and he gets paid way too much.

And they won't give it to a 2 time cy young pitcher that has only been in the league a few years??? YOU CHEAP BASTARDS!

From CBS Sportsline:

Latest News
Tim Lincecum is prepared to hear some harsh criticism in an arbitration hearing with the Giants -- perhaps even delving into his offseason pot bust. The two-time reigning NL Cy Young Award winner is asking for a record $13 million, while the Giants offered $8 million when the sides exchanged numbers last month. Lincecum is seeking the richest contract ever awarded in arbitration, surpassing the $10 million that Alfonso Soriano (2006) and Francisco J. Rodriguez (2008) got after losing cases and Ryan Howard received after winning in 2008. Lincecum's hearing is scheduled for this month in St. Petersburg, Fla. He plans to attend. "With the two Cy Youngs, it just throws a curveball in the mix," Lincecum said. "People were saying I could ask for pretty much anything."

Love that he says he will show up with the two Cy Youngs. San Fran. is my second favorite team and with this much bickering with a guy that would be #1 on any staff (in my opinion), I wonder if this is a wise move the big wigs are making.
