At Ralphs, I found $20.00 at one of the self service kiosiks in the change dispenser.

I walked out of Ralphs thinking, "Score!"

As I drove away to run some errands, I realized that $20.00 is not given as change to customer in these machines (if the maximum it accepts is $20.00, it is not possible to get $20.00 back change on an purchase) and an employee might have been cashing out the machine and left one bill in the dispenser. If an employees is $20.00 short, they could get fired.

So I felt bad and drove back to Ralphs 4 hours later after running some errands and asked whether they cash out the machine during the day. She said no. I told her I found $20.00 in the machine. She then mentioned that someone might have asked for cash back and forgot to take the money. Well, my thinking at the time was, "Is this person going to come back for the money?". I was unsure whether this person would or not.

I also thought that there are accidents, and mistakes. Dropping your wallet by mistake is one thing. Leaving money at a machine after requesting cash back is boneheaded and punishable (by loss of money). I decided to keep the money.

As I was driving home, I realized that since this person requested cash back, will probably later notice they don't have this money and more than likely call the Ralphs to see if an employee found the money. I also realized that the person might have already come back and asked if the money was found since 4 hours had gone by.

I am not feeling very good right now.

What do you think?

No, I don't believe in Karma. If there was Karma, nice guys wouldn't finish last.

You turn that money in and more than likely it doesn't go to the person who lost it.

Stop by the nearest church or Salvation Army and put the money in the collection box. You will feel much better about yourself.

Why won't people just realize that finding money or getting too much change back is a blessing and not a curse. Some poor waitress isn't going to lose her job over one little error and if they do lose their job over it is either because she already stealing from the job or fucks up like that all of the time. Also some poor mother of 4 starving children didn't just happen to drop her last $20 in the parking lot or left it on the lotto counter and the loss of that $20 is going to cause her to not pay the rent and get evicted and have her children placed in a home.

Do you realize that you, me and everybody else out there has also been short changed at the register from time to time or dropped a 20 spot in the bar or left it in the pants that you took to the dry cleaners and never noticed the shit was gone. In most case then not the same person that lost the money that you found has no fuckin clue the money is gone and even if the realize they lost is somewhere they aren't actually expecting somebody to turn it in.
