Question about California State Prison

Have a good buddy who was just sentenced to six years for Armed Robbery. He pleady guilty to second degree robbery (211-212.5(c) PC) and admitted to use of dangerous or deadly weapons (12022(d) PC)

Been friends with the guy for well over 20 years and was shocked to see him go down this path. This was actually the first time he has ever been arrested or even in trouble. He was granted 400 days of credit for his time in county as CA does a 3 for 1 type of deal.

My question is: How long should I expect him to be in for? I have read some places that it could be 55% of his sentence but I was leaning more towards 85% since it was a violent crime.

I realize what he did was horrible and wrong but this is not a question of morality but of the penal system.

4 years would be realistic if he keeps his nose clean. Always a chance for early release with overcrowding and budget constraints.

I am sure he will be. Blows me away that we were just hanging out a few months ago and now he throws his late twenties/early thirties away for nothing.

Dumb thing was that he didnt get a penny out of the deal. He had a hard up family member and he was trying to be supportive but there are alot better ways to go about it. Gonna suck spending his late twenties behind bars but hopefully he comes out stronger and not institutionalized.

nobody gets anal raped in cali state prison unless

1) you have it coming (retaliation for something)
2) you are in the "special needs yard"

general population is more prone to violence and lockdown is 23 hours a day. he'll have a lot of problems, doubt rape will be one of them unless he makes it that way

Do you have any kind of cite for that latter claim?

Pelican Bay might have close to a 23in24 lockdown, but I'm certain that's hardly the norm for other facilities.

I'm happy to be educated otherwise.
