Are there are any books offering props on this?

Former Canadian professional ice hockey star, Wayne Gretzky who played for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and the New York Rangers is rumored to ignite the Olympic flame in tonight’s opening ceremony in Vancouver.

With Gretzky the most likely to ignite the flame, as it is a “hockey-crazy-country,” there have also been other candidates named as possible torch lighters including Nancy Greene, a senator who won a gold and siver medal for alpine skiing, and Betty Fox, the mother of Terry Fox, a Canadian icon who lost a leg to cancer, and then embarked on a coast-to-coast run, only to succumb to the disease before he could finish.

But the CEO of the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee, John Furlog quashed rumors that the hockey legend will be the final torch bearer and said “you can think about it as long as you like, but up until the final moments, you’re not going to figure it out.”

having a tragedy like that at very beginning, really casts a shadow over the whole event...hard for anyone to enjoy the competition that knew the competitor that died..

The clips they showed of the athlete who died were very intense, it was a very rough beginning for the games. That said I thought the opening ceremonies were terrific. I was right downtown after the ceremonies finished and the atmosphere was incredible, never experienced anything like it.
