heh...I gotta admit that we have given a pretty fair share of thought to migrating to the Australia/New Zealand region for our later years (sometime after I turn 60 in ten years).

5) Calgary

Have had a good friend in Calgary for 4 years. She has been wanting me to come up there for a while. I being a life long Louisville Kentucky native, wonder how much of a change it would be? Anyone know? I know the air is very thin since they are way above sea level and they like to hike and ski often. As for as sports, I am not a big NHL fan, but the CFL might be a nice change. It would seem like the Twilight Zone though to see a team punt on 3rd and 2 from their own 54 LOL. Anyone with info please share. Thanks.

Steak Tatar..

these places are either too cold at times or have big hairy spiders...ill pass

My 2 cents...

Canada is cold and Australia has the deadly spiders but their medical infrastructure down under is the best in the world at treating venomous bites by snakes and spiders if that is any consolation. Given the choice I would choose New Zealand over Australia..

Auckland, New Zealand is attractive along with Wellington which is also in New Zealand. Not sure how affordable NZ is though.

I assume this list is taking cost of living into account seeing how they overlook Switzerland and Germany two countries with several top infrastructure and quality of life cities such as Zürich, Bern and Geneva in Switzerland. Germany is home to modern cities like and Munich, Frankfort, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg for example. Throw in other excellent European cities like Copenhagen, Stockholm, Brussels, and Amsterdam you have to consider Europe full of attractive but unfortunately expensive places to live.

Geneva Austria is also highly ranked. In the US I think Honolulu is ranked the highest when it comes to quality of life and infrastructure but pretty far down the world wide list. San Francisco might be a better choice simply because of geography.

You personally might be in as decent a spot as far as bang for your buck goes right now...

A well known member of the sportsbetting industry lives in New Zealand, unless he moved in the last five years or so. I am pretty sure you know who I mean. Not important as far as this topic goes.

Vancouver and Toronto are expensive from what I hear, I have never been to either city. Helsinki is probably the coldest city on Barman's list, Calgary is a mystery as far as I am concerned..

None of the cities in Barman's list would be on mine
because I would want someplace warm and cheap.

Yeah, getting by on just $50K a year could be tough in those places

Don't tell anyone, but I love the Carson Valley (NV) area - Minden, Gardnerville, etc. I hope to end up there some day....

We actually do have some pretty good and - most important - very wealthy connections in Australia and I'm confident they would be a part of the process were we to conclude that was our best destination for the year 2020 and beyond.
