Anyone else have their SS# leaked out on the outside of an envelope from Citi ?

I got a year end tax statement from them and my SS# was somehow printed on the outside of the envelope... Needless to say I'm pissed. They gave me a 6 month subscription to I dentity Guard, just enrolled. Anyone else have this issue? Wondering what I can do legally?

damn glad I do not have CITI but this can happen at many places... people can find out any info on you they want ...its scary how much is out there

Letter from Citi was dated 2/16/10 and today is the 20th, not sure when we got the statement; maybe last week..Not good. Will be contacting a lawyer on Monday to see what rights I have.

i doubt if u have any rights honestly.

there has been thousands of cases where some hacker or something found exposed social security numbers on a website or they were viewable or possibly viewed adn the company just appologizes and says to the customer sorry basically. lol

I believe that in order for you to be able to take legal action there has to be some sort of "damages".

I'm sure there's some obscure law on the books somewhere that you can sue them under. If you do sue, they'll ask for a motion of summary judgment in their favor. If they don't get it, based on the cost of defending, you'll probably get a few bucks in a quick settlement.
