What kind of collateral would I need if I wanted to move to Vegas to make a career out of gambling?

If you're self-employed you shouldn't need any collateral but, given the fact that gambling is a long-term game and that anything can happen in the short term, you'd be wise to have a good amount of cash in the bank.

Why go to vegas.....wouldn't it be easier to do it at home in your underwear? If you're good enough to make a living pounding the pavement in Vegas, I would think you could do it much easier at home. Perhaps I'm missing something, but what does Vegas offer for a professional gambler that can't be found online?

I think he is referring to a bankroll. My advice. As a professional gambler my entire adult life, DON'T do it! I wouldn't advise anybody to follow the path I chose.

If you are asking you don't have it. If planning to make a career out of sports betting just maintain a low profile and do it online. I guess you could go pro at video poker though - providing you have a 500,000 bankroll.

Exactly.....I'd stay far away from that place.

Why is that?
I never gambled full-time to finance my life, but only gambled as a 2nd source of income. So I might underestimate the toll a downswing might take on you, if that's the only source of income for you.
But at least from the outside it seems like if he had what it takes to succeed and he could handle the up's and down's of betting and the missing social interaction of a "normal" everyday job, that gambling for a living isn't a worse job than most others,
Ok, you lack the social side of a normal job (interacting with co-workers, being accepted/getting a certain standing because of your socially accepted line of work) and "security" of a regular paycheck (ok, that security can be faster gone than one thinks, esp. in todays economic climate), but on the upside you can earn a solid salary if you are good at sportsbetting, you can manage your own working schedule and don't have to depend on anybody.

I agree, I would say just off the top of my head you would need about 100 grand to start... of liquid money as you will have rent for your place and living expenses along with your sports betting ..if you are going to play poker also you might need more

Your looking at making between 4 and 8% a year on your money. So figure out your living expenses including wages and taxes for the year . Your 4 to 8% will need to cover that and still show a profit. Easy money...

When u get to Vegas go to the most ritzy exclusive subdivision you can find and go house to house asking who sportsbets....You wont find any sportsbettors but youll get to meet all the sportsbook owners....

Collateral ? A far better question is what kind of knowledge do you have to make a living gambling. It's not easy to do. What's your plan and do you have the ability to be successful ? What games are you planning on excelling at ? Poker ? Video Poker ? Blackjack ? Sportsbetting ?

All you really need are the clothes on your back

A toothbursh, toothpaste and deodorant would be good, too. After that, all that matters is how hard you are willing to work at it

But the less you have to start, the more likely McDonalds is to offer a better hourly wage

The #1 mistake I see most gamblers make, is being undercapitalized. Sports wagering, casino gambling, 1-2 nl holdem, it doesn't matter. People wager too high of a % of their bankroll. In fact, most people don't even have a gambling bankroll. I have seen some of the sharpest of the sharp, lose for this very reason.
