I've got an 06 GTO. Awesome car. No problems thus far. Get the standard tranny though. You lose about 10% more power to the wheels with the automatic. Theres really no comparison btwn the mustang and the GTO. Gto's got it beat by about 100 horsepower and its a hell of a lot more fun to drive.
Get the mustang. It looks great, is easily modifiable, and is still plenty fast.
The GTO is freaking ugly. Does even matter about anything else. It. is. freaking. ugly.
If you want something REALLY fast and stylish, get the new camaro or an old corvette or something. Just don't get the GTO.

I was looking at the GTO's back in 04 before I bought my Tahoe. I was close to pulling the trigger on one until I found out Pontiac/GMAC was going to discontinue the model.
I have been meaning to get either the Challenger or the Camaro this year but I am loving not having a car payment right now. Besides the car lots in California are baron when it comes to fun cars right now. Maybe before the summer I will revisit getting a muscle car.
