Now is the time to start planning your vegetbable gardens and flower beds. If you can buy supplies such as fertilizer and lime now, you might can save money instead of waiting later this spring to purchase. If you can do the intial tilling of your garden now and apply fertilizer and lime, it is advantageous because these elements need 30-45 days to leach down into the soil to become effective. Later on in the spring, you can retill in order to plant. Adding a mixture of potting soil to your garden and flower beds will ensure a strong intial root development and worth the cost. By careful planning now, it will enable you to enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer months as your gardens matures.

What I am refering to is preparing the soil, and not actually planting the garden. As to three feet of snow, you might have to wait until Easter to even cross this bridge.

I just got back from Walmart and Lowes. Somethings are very reasonable while for instance seeds might need to be purchased at a nursery or a feed and seed store. Nowadays seeds are measured by weight in grams and it is hard to tell how many seeds are in a pack. You can get a rough idea, but at a nusery or a feed and seed store, you can actually count the number you will need.

Wow amazing thread. Just about an hour ago driving home from the gym I started thinking I wanted to get started early this year on the landscaping. No joke, I even thought to go back and look for a couple threads here from last year and ask some questions. The first thing I see is a new landscaping thread at the top of the page, what are the odds of that.

That being said I don't even know where to start yet cause I haven't thought about it much since there is still a foot of snow over half my property just outside Philly.

Thanks for starting this John and tips and info is always appreciated.
