Tiger Woods has turned down a $75 million (49.9 million pounds) sponsorship offer from Paddy Power, the Irish bookmaker said on Friday, adding it would make an improved offer to the golfer.

The 14-times major champion winner was dumped by sports drink brand Gatorade last week, the third major corporate sponsor to abandon the American since details of his adulterous affairs surfaced late last year.
The Dublin-based company said its initial offer to Woods, who was estimated to have earned $100 million annually in endorsement deals before taking an indefinite break from golf in December, covered a five-year period.

Woods did not set a date for his return to competition when he spoke to media last month for the first time since the scandal over his private life erupted.

Paddy Power lost 1.5 million euros (1.4 million pounds) by paying out to those who had gambled on Woods after just 36 holes of last year's U.S. PGA Championship, which the world No.1 eventually lost to South Korea's Yang Yong-eun.

Not like he needs the money, no reason to hurt his image more by supporting gambling.
Now Michael Jordan or Charles Barkley...there would be a good sponsor.

I read this today, not surprised. He is not that desparate for money or sponsors. He would not pimp a gambling firm, no way no how

Paddy Power - curious question...

I know very few Rxers are able to play at Paddy Power but if you did have an account at PP and Tiger did sign with them to became their prime spokesperson, would it bother you to support a book that uses someone with Tiger's history of adulterous behavior?

In other words would you go as far as withdrawing your balance because of Paddy Power paying big money to Tiger to promote the book?

FWIW - personally I would still play there Tiger or no Tiger myself, of course I am not a player there.

Tigers got enough problems.. The last thing i'm sure he wants to do is peddle some bookmaking operation. The media would bash him for it.

My account there was shut down several months ago, so it doesn't matter, but I wouldn't care who they sponsor and still bet at their book. It's none of my business what Tiger does in his private life.

Besides that: If I in fact would be pissed by them sponsoring Tiger, shouldn't it actually increase my will to play at their book since I expect to take money from them, and not expect them to take my money?

I wonder If Phil Mickelson was ever offered the deal.

I often heard Mickelson on ESPN radio talk about his sports betting picks.....Calls his big games his mother in-law picks....The guy seems to know his stuff.

I would not close my account because they signed him nor would I be any more likely to open one either. Sounds like an attempted waste of some very big bucks.

Lots of sportsfolk are sponsored by gambling companies, with no stigma anywhere except America... does the fact Woods is American mean he'd be stigmatised if he accepted sponsorship?

He's trying to rebuild his reputation...why would he take sponsorship from a book? =|

just think about how much money these books make if they are willing to shell out 75 million dollars. And we all waste our time and money trying to beat these books, lollll.

I'd double up my balance...

I could absolutely care less how many sluts Tiger bangs - good for him. The only person who should care is his wife.

If you could care less, then you must care somewhat already.

You mean.... I couldn't care less.

Good question posed, Wil.

Personally, I think it might make me more likely to play there. Not because Tiger Woods is endorsing them, but because I know if they pay Tiger $75M the odds of them stiffing anyone/closing shop are virtually zip, and it wouldn't be a problem to have some funds there stay idle.

Cheetah Woods now wants to take the high moral ground, and not represent a gambling company..... LOL

Sometimes a guy just has too much money....often leads to cocaine , but hey Pussy is better !

Screw this Cablackinasian POS.

I can see a book sponsoring him, but certainly not mainstream places.

Dude should grab that free money, and it's not even marketed to the US, won't be seen much back "home".

Just a year of it, is like the lifetime earnings of a doctor/lawyer.

I am not joking but i think Paddy Power just saved them self some serious coin. That was one of the most ridicules offers 75 mill .
Paddy is very well known book and they have their reputation behind them . I find it very strange that they made this offer .Knowing that soccer is major revenue for them + tennis.
Strange offer from Paddy .
