$3.3 million a year for their leadoff hitter is a pretty favorable deal for the Twins as long as Span continues to get on base at a .390-.400 clip. The deal is likely to save the Twins some money over what they'd pay in arbitration and the $9 million option over his first free agent season gives them the chance to retain Span for a reasonable amount if he continues to mature.
