| George King reports in Sunday's New York Post that Cuban shortstop Adeinis Hechavarria is close to signing with the Blue Jays for $10 million. If the source giving King information is to be believed, the shortstop didn't want to sign with the Yankees because he felt that Derek Jeter would block his progress to the major leagues. If the number is correct, Hechavarria is in line for a bigger payday than the $8 million Jose Iglesias got from the Red Sox.
