Hitters are safer bets than pitchers in top rounds. For sleepers, it is better to take younger players with upside over veterans with a pension to get hurt. Try not to draft 1 stat guys early, like a guy that can only get you saves/SB and nothing else.

I agree with FW.

Draft all offense put together a stud line up. Then try and go with a make shift pitching staff as you go.

Yes they will. Probably come down to the bullpen again.

Cheap saves are always available at the end of the draft. Jon Rauch is Nathan's replacement in Minnesota. One could do worse than take him.

my current team:

C:
1B: derek lee
2B: dan uggla
3B: ryan zimmerman
SS:
OF: ryan braun
OF: matt holliday
OF:

only pitcher i have is jon lester thus far...where should i go from here? catchers and shortstops are wearing thin, should be able to snag someone middle-grade from there...should i start heading for my starting rotation?

also just took javier vazquez...figured the yanks would be a force again this year and the dude was money last year...i'll list a few of the catchers\shortstops\outfielders left that are notable.

C: russell, napoli, suzuki, pierzynski, posada, montero, few of the molinas...

SS: a. cabrera, andrus, bartlett, escobar, theriot, scutaro, tejada, drew

OF: span, ramirez, pence, bourne, coghlan, kubel, soriano, ludwick, cuddyer, damon, bruce, rios, hawpe, beltran

or any sleepers you may know that nobody would have picked up on...pretty novice league

Go for strikeout punch on SP...Their higher number of IP will help that category

bar - i grabbed wandy...hope he has his head on his shoulders this year.

pitchers thus far: lester, wandy, vazquez...

took bartlett as my SS instead of escobar, though i do like escobar...

should i go for the pitching staff now and leave my last OF spot open for a few more rounds so i can cap off a decent pitching staff? i'm not worried about a catcher...they all suck besides mauer

Agree. Also target pitchers in pitchers parks and ones with a good closer to save your wins.

Avoid Alfonso Soriano if possible. Injuries have sapped him. Marlin Byrd could be a sleeper worth targeting.

Unless your league has tight restrictions on Moves, I find it useful to consider at least two or three lineup spots as "rotating". For example, the third OF might be changed every three to seven days as you select the best FA outfielder who is getting ready to play against the league's bad pitching staffs. Then when his team goes to face a strong pitching team, swap him for another OF who is getting ready to play a bad staff.
