Rumor has it this could happen in 2011.

Proposals call for anywhere from a few play in games,to expanding the field to 96 teams......Thoughts

i could see them adding about 4 spots or so...maybe have the bottom 2 seeds in each bracket in play in games...gives a better way to put these teams in that win these small conf that no one has ever heard of...

you could maybe have 72 teams, with the 15,16,17, 18 seeds in the 4 brackets play in 15 vs 18, 16 vs 17 for final 2 spots in each bracket....would leave more spots for the bigger conf at large teams....

Why not 256?

They already put in too many teams that had mediocre seasons and zero chance of winning. But that is what the customers demand

love to hear how "great" this tournament is and how they crown a "real national champion" once they go up to 96 teams.

I say just add like 4 more play in games for these bubble teams(8) to playoff against one another to get into the field of 64..teams that win their conf. tourney shouldn't be playing this Tues. game they should be in the 64...it's the barely made it squads that should have to deal with playing Tues and then again on Fri. So you could have like Miss. St. playing against Illinois.

Trouble with 96 games is that someone would still feel like they are getting screwed...

You are, of course, 100% correct...

I really liked what Jay Bilas had to say on Selection Sunday when he said he was "tired of all the hand wringing over the last couple of spots. It wasn't like those teams were going to win the National Championship anyway"...

He was/is 100% correct. Expanding to 96 will NOT make the "why did we left out" whiners go away. It will make them look more stupid...but it won't make them go away...

They should expand to 128. If not that, at the very least take all regular season conference champs as well as tourney champs.

i say just take the winner of each conference tourney and seed by conference RPI. give the great west a bid to make it an even 32. then even the conference tournaments are one-and-done, even for the top teams. basically makes it a 340-team bracket.

Right. How about just eliminating a team? The play-in game is retarded. It's not like Miss. St or Illinois had any chance of winning the tounrey.
