Passed away due to heart problems in New Orleans. Great musician who probably should have gotten more credit than he did.....Here is a couple of hits....just some of the many that turned into American classics

It's hard to believe that he was only 16 years old when he sang "The Letter" for the Box Tops. When I first heard that song I thought it was an old black guy singing it. I was also a fan of his band Big Star back in the early 70's One of the better pop bands I've heard. They had a big influence on R.E.M. He wasn't the most talented performer that I've seen live. But he was a great songwriter.
