Self was panicked from the first timeout on. His players picked up on it, just as everyone that watched the game did. His team played scared the entire game. A better coach would have taken control of the situation and displayed confidence, allowing his team to do the things they had done all year.

Aldrich's comments after the game tell the story. "It might have been a different story had we gone to the locker room down 4 or 6, instead of 8."

Are you kidding me? You are the best team in the land by a wide margin, but 8 points in 20 minutes seems like a tall task, while 4-6 would be doable? Bill Self shit his pants 3 minutes into the game, and this loss is on him.

how about the 3 pointer that kid hit with about 30 seconds left? has there ever been a bigger "nonononono YES!" moment than that?

Great amazing game, but agreed. Even during the LeHigh game Bill Self was going absolutely insane when they went down 12-4 early. He has absolutely no composure. If he wasn't Memphis's horrid free throwing shooting down the stretch a couple years ago he wouldn't have a job tomorrow.

When you break a press and have numbers you have to make the other team pay. That was the best shot they were going to get, so I think it was the smart thing to do. He had been draining threes all afternoon, so if I was the coach, I would've been upset if he didn't shoot it.

I thought he learned how to handle a game like this from Bucknell a few years ago...but he just gets to emotional and cannot contain his panic. He is like a nervous fan just hoping his team can pull it out.

That's exactly what he is, nothing more. They would have been better off without a coach yesterday. You go to a timeout to regroup and gain confidence and assurance, and your coach is hyperventillating. He may be a great guy, a great recruiter, and a fun guy to play for......but when his players need him to lead them to victory, he is completey helpless.

If John Wooden is coaching that team yesterday, they win by 15.

When's the last time Illinois won the National Championship? Sooner or later a blind dog will find a bone.

They've never won it. What the hell does that have to do with this thread?
