My dad does this for a living sorta. He's retired and now has an antique business. He goes to estate sales all the time. There are bargains everywhere according to him. All I ever see though is him buying shit and never selling it. Lol.

If I'm not mistaken its just like a "yard sale" everything has a price tag on it. Lots of times groups will come in and offer a price for everything and buy it all for some reduced amount. The buyer gets some good deals and the seller does not have to eff with it anymore.

They're pretty cool. You can find some really good stuff sometimes, but you can also find complete crap. Usually when people are moving or had passed away there's an estate sale. All the stuff they don't want to/can't bring with them. I've been to a handful, and definitely saw some really good deals.

Hand Tools, Garden and Landscapre Supplies, Books, and Loose Hardware (Nails, Screws, and Nuts and Bolts) are just some of the things you will probably find.

This is the key. Craigslist and eBay are you friends here too.

Great concept my sister and I are haveing one this week to sell off the stuff from my Mom's estate. The people that do these things get like 30% but they do it all, pull everything out of the closets and store room, price and display and advertise it. I am a 6 hour drive from there so you can imagine the trouble that it is saving me.

As far as going to them, one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Estate sales can be very profitable for you if you know what your doing. The best advice I can give you is to read up and specialize in just one or two items. That way you can go right to something and know immediatly what it's worth from experience. I see many people fumble around and just buy every piece of junk in sight when they go to these things. And probably end up getting home and discovering what they've bought isn't worth anything. Just because something is old or nostalgic doesn't mean it's worth anything. The best thing you can do is to have a gameplan and just pick one or two items to look for, then go into the Ebay archives and see what those particular items are worth and what they have sold for over the years. Knowledge of these things can save you a lot of time and trouble of looking for everything a person is selling in their house or garage.. It can also allow you the extra time to hit 2 or 3 of these estate sales before all of the good collectibles are gone. And when you go to these estate sales, be sure to get there very early. And be prepared to be pushed around by litlle old 70 years old ladies trying to get to the same thing you want.

VERY ASTUTE TAKE. So very true.

For those of you who are interested in doing this kind of shit you should consider watching American Pickers and Pawn Stars on Monday's on the History Channel (269 on DirecTV).

It's a fun hobby as well.

I know a guy who stumbled upon a vintage Johnny Cash album recorded in the early 1950's on the Sun Label in Memphis at an Estate Sale. Maybe worth some coin to a collector, but an intersting find nevertheless.

This is actually how I got the idea. I love both shows and they teach me a little about history as well.

On that Pawn Stars show, they just had one where a guy found a 1965 Shelby Cobra body in an abandoned storage shed. The shell was found to be authentic and worth 60k

Amazing.

I sell at a place that pays cash......no paper trail.

FH, you sure remind me of a guy from Vegas that I know with last name of Hess. You dont happen to know anybody with that name do you?

He is an old school guy that hustles (I mean that in a good way) about 100 diff. gigs to make a very nice living.

You would be one heck of an interesting guy to have some beers with.
