The school confirmed what Spartans coach Tom <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_1_0>Izzo </NOBR> expected after an MRI showed that Lucas suffered the injury late in the first half of Sunday’s second-round win over No. 4 seed Maryland.
"We feel terrible for Kalin, he was having a great NCAA tournament,” Izzo said. "The good news is there is no doubt he will make a full and complete recovery. He’s a tough kid, and he’ll do everything necessary to return to his elite level.”
This is a huge blow to Michigan State’s hopes to return to the Final Four. Lucas was averaging 14.8 points and four assists per game this season.
Lucas will likely be replaced by Korie <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_4_0>Lucious </NOBR>, who made the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to beat the Terps and advance to a Sweet 16 matchup with Northern Iowa.
Lucas’ recovery time is expected to be 4-6 months.
