Best way to quit the smokes

On a half a pack a day right now.....Crappy,expensive habit.
I would like to know what methods were successful for others in
kicking the habit.

Call 311 now .....get the Patch for free ..........Me an my wife gave them up 15 Months ago .......after smoking close to 30 years .
I am not sure if they give them for free in NJ ....but if you know someone ( or work ) in NY use there address .....

cold turkey man, dropped the smokes after smoking a lot of years, cos i understood what kind of poison it it, that i dont need that crap anymore. it was hard, especially first couple of weeks, i had an urge to smoke, but then it goes away, and you really feel free without it. gl man.

Am trying to quit also. I'm using nicotine gum. Down from over a pack and half, to ten cigs a day. Drink a lot of water and try to stay busy.

set a date for when u want to quit-2 to 3 wks from now. next wind down ur smoking, get as close to zero as u can as your quit date approaches. u can u gum, patches, or other aids. list reasons why u want to quit, write them down and stick that paper somewhere handy, where u can read it periodically. smokes suck, expensive, u don't really want to smoke. just understand that nicotine is an addiction & that you are addicted to it.

1) watch a movie about emphysema

2) progressively lessen the amount you smoke. I went from 2 packs a day to no cigs in 5 days. Then plan on eating a lot of snacks.. Not a joke that carrots and gum really help after you quit

cold turkey for me, hard candy like peppermints and butterscotches for me, and chewing on cinnamon toothpicks or just plain ole straws.

I quit cold turkey after 30 years of pack a day +.

Here is how I did it...


1) buy a lot of gum that has a strong flavor

2) you need some kind of pen that you take apart but it acts like a cigarette that you can hold and take a drag from, combine this with gum and its quite effective.

3) some kind of journal that you write in about quiting this time for real.

4) get ready for long walks


5) you need to buy yourself some herb. Once a day in the early evening smoke half that blunt, smoke the other half about 3 hours later. No tabacco in the mix.

I smoked about 15 cigs a day for 15 years. I used Wellbutrin and the nicotine patch. The first month is the most difficult and it takes a couple of years before the urge disappears completely. I haven't smoked since 2004.

Just spent a week in the hospital, they supplied the patches, that was good enough, but 2 hours after I got home I was lighting up again.

I used to smoke 2 packs a day. My buddy and I made a big bet on who could quit. Both of us quit cold turkey and it was the best bet i ever made and didnt collect because he quit too. this was 20 years ago.

Put a picture of a black lung on your bathroom mirror, in your car and at work. I guess you could put a nice smiling picture of your family members next to the lung. That would do it for me but I've never smoked so I don't know.
