Not sure if this will get moved, but figured we'd talked about Chili in the past so here goes...

In a new town, don't have a ton of friends here, but I like a good hearty meal - so it's been a little difficult to eat well on a daily basis. Any good slow-cooker recipes so that I can "cook" every few days and have something good to show for it? Chili recipes that work well in a slow-cooker more than welcome.

Love Brisket

Slow cook a brisket in 100% apple juice.

Never tried the apple juice. DEC do you brown your brisket first? Have you ever tried "braised short ribs of beef"? One of my top 5 all time favs, if done right. Every time my daughter comes home she makes me a huge pot full, and I freeze some.

Drizzle each hen with a TBS of olive oil also and sprinkle seasonings on top.

Cornish hens have no gizzards to deal with and are considered ALL white meat, just take out of package and rinse...............two hens for $3 bucks apiece will fill most 200lb men and then some.

Sounds very good, I love braised/slow cooking. Never did Cornish hens in a crock before. They must come out with an intense flavor? I would save that juice after cooking also. You can strain it into ice cube trays and freeze it (ala Elton Brown) makes for a great sauce starter or soup stock.

If I may add a little advice to this recipe? I would only put in enough stock to come half way up the hens in the crock pot or you'll end up with hen soup.

Good advice.............I only put about 1.2 inches in the bottom of the crock......then the fat from hens and little olive drip down into it.

No, dropped it raw in enough apple juice to cover it about half way and cooked it for 8 hours. Never tried braised short ribs but it sounds awesome. Share the recipe?
