what would you study? seems like a popular answer is computers. maybe health care now with the health care bill passing (or IRS)? homeland security? what types of jobs can you get into if you're in the process of going to school for that field -- i think the term is entry level?

Im in school right now. Currently trying to get my Marketing AA. But right now im taking the basic courses. So if I chose to change my career path I can still do that. Leaning Marketing , Accounting , or Business. The good thing about these subjects is that they tie into one another so I wont have to drastically change my courses at my school.

I also would like to get my realtor license. I know the market is fucked right now but they make good money just selling a house. And since im already working towards my Marketing, it fits right in with my skills. Selling and advertising a house I couldnt give a fuck about for commission.

The health care field was and will continue to be a secured job. Why? People before and after Obamacare will be in need of medicine, doctors and shit. This field will continue to grow.

i don't think real estate would be that bad actually. i mean, it's only gonna get better, sort of like the stock market......ebbs and flows.....over the long run, prices go up.....one of my neighbors just put their house up for sale.....

on the other end, my lease is up at the end of next month.....wonder if my landlord is planning on selling, or if he's crossing his fingers that i'll want to do another lease (not that i can afford it@)

I have my business degree, and LostBankroll, I was under the same impression that you were. They you can do anything with a Business degree... Well, my degenerate friend, that is not the case... Business degree are so general that you don't get any "real" skills. You get information. I would never, ever, recommend a business management or marketing degree to anyone.

IMO, they are completely BS (not bachelor of science either) degrees. They are a waste of your time, and a waste of your money, UNLESS you already have a GREAT career and the degree will allow you to move up in your field... The ONLY business fields you should even think about touching is Accounting or Financial. There you get real valuable skills that you can put down on paper. Try putting Managment BS on a resume. Marketing is basically sales, although I enjoy it, many don't want to do that forever, and even more so, you don't need a marketing degree to do it well....

If I was going back to just study something that interest me greatly, it would be

INDUSTRIAL PSYCOLOGY... anyone ever heard of this.. Funniest, most interesting class I ever took. Unforunately I didnt take this until my senior year, otherwise I would of switched majors. It's basically if Business and Psycology had a baby, this would be it... It's using psycology for a better business enviroment to for the employees as well as the clients... fascinating stuff, but then again, I imagine its nearly impossible to get a job in this field...

If I was going to Un-done my waste of time Business MGMT degree to get a great, steady job, it would be engineering. In my small city we have two nuclear enginneering places (not the acutal plants, but places that work on them) and they are both huge, and pay exteremly high... We have a massive need for Engineers and it's always been that way here... My best friend and I went to the same College, within 1 year of working he was able to build a $300k house (which is very nice here) and thats just his "pool" house.. His plans in a couple years are to build the main living quarters... And here I am, much smarter than him, more experience with many more things, and I struggle to find any job paying more than 30k per year... engineering is the way to go.

Study to become bi or even trilingual. Written and spoken fluency in Spanish or Chinese is smart business for the 21st century

I'm going back, starting tomorrow actually, and plan to get an AA in Business Management (3 semesters - already have a bunch of credits), then a BA (2.5 more years), and hopefully a MBA after that.

Celtic, please see my above post.. I feel bad for anyone who is counting on a Business Admin/Mgmt/Mktg degree to pay off.... The ONLY, and I mean ONLY business friends from college that got a job they love, make good money at, and plan to do forever were my Accounting and Finance major...

It's so hard to get into a good job with that degree. Do something else... then pursue your MBA.. MBA is worth something but it is much better to have a bachelors that you KNOW that can support you for the rest of your life....

For example, I have a friend getting MBA right now, one major in engineering, and it will give him so many opportunities in his current company to a big boss...

I've enjoyed your post, and hope to meet you at the bash one year, but unless you have a great job now, that will give you a boast for getting your business degree... STAY AWAY !!!!:smoker2:

Appreciate your thoughts - and I'll remember them when I revisit my plans (probably many, many times).

The BA is my immediate need, as it will allow me to apply for positions that I'm shutout of currently. What the BA will be in could very well change a few times before I get there.
