i honestly don't know where the big fuss comes from.....i've never been married or had kids, so my perspective from that end is skewed.....but as an hourly worker i had a factory job in the late 90s and early 2000s, i could have had employer based insurance for like 30 or 40 bucks a month (don't remember the exact amount, but it's nowhere as insane as i've seen a lot of folks claim), but as a native american in oklahoma, i had no use for it since i had that option. these people who claim 3 or 4k a month in costs befuddles me:think2:.....maybe they could have pooled their money together and paid a couple extra points a month to cover themselves instead of asking the rest of the country to pay for it:think2:

to answer your question though, i think as companies evaluate the situation, more and more will drop coverage, forcing more and more citizens into the government plan. look at the major companies -- about a dozen of them already -- coming forward and stating how much money they're going to lose in the upcoming quarters. why would they continue to offer insurance as they lay off workers and raise the costs of their services to compensate for their losses?

and then you know what? people are still gonna bitch. nobody trusts free shit. when i was a kid, everybody hated the indian hospital. only reason seemed to be that because it was free, they must suck.

Saw something on the news last night that they're raising prices by 15% when Obama care kicks in.

I have insurance 100% paid for.
Only 500 deduct and pays 92%. With a $15 co-pay.
Thats for the whole family

Its the only reason I have not gone completely in business for myself.
It would cost me a fortune to pay for all that on my own.

It still exist
But I will be interested to see how it turns out once the Government plan takes full effect.

But to answer dougs question, I would say most full time jobs offer to at least pay 50% of insurance cost if not all.

I dont know too many people who dont have it.
But Louisiana was probably the least affected state in the entire country during this downturn.

Its almost like living the Truman Show down here.

The only time I see evidence of the downturn this country has faced the last 4 years is when I travel to other parts of the country.
Real Estate has not gone down much at all.
I dont know many people if any that are upside down.
I dont know anyone who has lost there house.
I dont know anyone who does not have a job.

If someone wants to start a new life I would suggest coming to Louisiana.
Low cost of living and high paying jobs.
God bless America

Took a new job primarily b/c of this...

I pay about $200 a month for family coverage - health, dental, vision

No deductibles

$30 co-pay at the doctor

$150 co-pay for hospital stay regardless of length

Here is the kicker...my medication is 6 grand every two months...I pay $5 for it. Practically every prescription drug is $5 for me. Free glasses or contacts every year. Two free dental cleaning with a ridiculously low rate on dental work. My insurance is worth at least 15k a year by itself - not factoring in the prescription plan. Easily the best plan in the state IMO. Also have a pension that pays 80% salary for 25 years service retiree for the rest of their lives...only costs me 7.5% salary per month. Can get 90% salary if you stay for 30 years. And this is figured off your best three years in the 10 yrs before you retire...so if you get a shit ton of overtime for a few years before you retire your pension will be jacked up sky high...and no this is not a private sector job.

Thats basically my plan except I pay $20 at doc appts, $75 for emergency room but if they admit you to hospital its free, $10 for retail clinic (whatever the hell that is), $20 urgent care........$100 a month for single folks and $200 for family plan.......i dont take any medicine and rarely have to go to doctor, knock on wood, so I basically only use insurance for 2 free teeth cleanings a year, and my two year old daughter

Just think, before long every deadbeat in the country will have insurance and our government is going to be deciding if/when we need to have our gallbladder removed...
