I am reading a book entitled "Turning Of The Tide" by Don Yaeger a Sports Illustrated writer. The book deals with a college football game in 1970 between The University Of Southern California and Alabama. Coach John McKay of USC utilizes Sam "Bam" Cunningham to beat Alabama in their own house and the result was Coach Bear Bryant finally had to realize that the only way to compete on a National Level was to recruit African American players. The book goes into detail about the great racial obstacles engrained in the Deep South during these years and how Coach Bryant did come to realize "The Times Were A Changin". A good read that combines Sports with Civil Rights and anyone who lived through times would find the book very very interesting to say the least. "Turning Of The Tide" is only about 200 Pages so pencil it in as rainy weekend book.
