J.P. Howell - R - Rays J.P. Howell, shut down 10 days ago because of a sore left shoulder, said he is ahead of schedule.
He was told to refrain from throwing for at least two weeks. "I'm way ahead of schedule right now," Howell said. "I'm very happy right now. It's easy to sleep knowing I'm making progress." He will undergo a strength test on April 5. Howell will begin the season on the disabled list. He had a 2.84 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 69 relief appearances last season and will be sorely missed. March 29
