Heard about it on the Dan Patrick show. Just signed up for it, does it work well?

It's an identity protection service

I don't know if it works well but they are the only thing that are keeping the Phoenix Mercury around. So I would guess it's a pretty good service.

We will provide early notification of both credit and non-credit related identity threats with our LifeLock Identity Alert™ system. This robust system alerts you by email, postal mail, and/or phone anytime we detect your personal information being used to apply for many forms of credit cards, wireless services, retail credit, utilities, check orders/reorders, mortgage loans, auto loans, and non-credit related payday loans. If the application is fraudulent, we will take action to protect your good name.

How to get the most out of your membership: Ensure you keep the contact information on file for your LifeLock account up-to-date. This will help us provide you timely notification of potential threats. You can update your account information anytime by visiting your myLifeLock account on www.lifelock.com/mylifelock.

To help us maintain your identity security, it is extremely important that you follow the instructions provided in any LifeLock Identity Alert™ notification you receive. If the notification instructs you to call LifeLock, please do so at your earliest convenience.

NOTE: These communications will always only ask that you contact us at our main number: 1-800-LIFELOCK (543-3562).

Do they offer any type of coverage? Say if someone does use your social.

Someone in Brazil bought like $600 of train tickets with my CC but my bank took care of that.

I don't think my social is worth much but it might be something to look in too.

Yup they cover up to a million. Check out their web site (fairly easy to use)

The guarantee does cover the cost for lawyers, investigators, case managers but not any direct losses as a result of the theft. Under the Terms and Conditions, NO money passes directly to our LifeLock members.

So, it seem like your paying $15 a month for them to cover your lawyer fees but not any actual losses.

But if you can get a team of pitbulls out to eat somebody on lifelock's dime that is pretty cool

LifeLock settles multi-million dollar lawsuit

March 9, 2010 (WPVI) -- LifeLock has settled a $12 million lawsuit which accused it of misleading customers.Back in December, the CEO of LifeLock talked to Action News about his company's alleged ability to offer customers complete identity theft protection and constant credit monitoring.

But in a lawsuit, Attorneys General in 35 states alleged Todd Davis inflated his promises and made confusing statements about a so-called million-dollar guarantee.

The settlement announced Tuesday includes an $11 million national fund for consumer relief.

"All eligible LifeLock customers will be contacted by the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission with instructions on how to file a claim," explained Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett.

He also pointed out consumers can take steps to prevent identity theft on their own.

"The best thing most people can do is closely check their monthly credit card bills and bank statements and regularly review their credit reports. Something they can do for free."

Meantime, LifeLock says:
"LifeLock is pleased with this agreement, which works to set advertising standards for the entire identity theft protection industry... The FTC has ensured that LifeLock has a legitimate business model going forward with honest advertising."

Guess what folks.

You put a security freeze on your credit from each of the 3 credit reporting agencies for $10.00 each. This permanently prevents anyone from obtaining a loan or credit card in your name until the security freeze is lifted. The cost to lift the security freeze temporarily is $30.00($10.00 x3).

It is still way cheaper than Life Lock.

I wanted to edit, but it was too late. If you want a loan in the future you might only need to remove the security freeze from the credit reporting agency the loan company uses. I don't exactly know how it works.

This will be a free service in about 2 years. Banks etc will use it to keep customers from going to competitors that do offer it for free.

I too think this is a waste of money.

Save your money. This company really knows how to advertise but what they offer is things you can do on your own or things you don't really need. I know someone that has it and he bought a vehicle and got two new credit cards in a six month period and didn't get one call from Lifelock to verify it was him doing the transaction. What they really love is your email address. They share that with tons of companies that will try to sell you more shit you don't want or need.
