Pettitte went 14-8 last season with a 4.16 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP in 32 starts, so it's not like he's totally lost it on the mound. Rather, he misses family life and wants to be around for the growth of his kids. "There are so many things going on back home and I’m not there," Pettitte told Curry. "I can’t keep asking my wife to take care of everything."

Haha I'd be shocked if pettitte didn't retire after this year, he came pretty damn close to it after last season. This sounds like it will definitely be his last year but he's not the kinda guy who will announce it to everyone as he does not want the extra attention.

Lefthander Andy Pettitte announced this past spring that he wouldn't pitch this season but didn't rule out a return in 2012. Now it sounds as if he might be enjoying retirement enough to make it permanent.

"Right now, I don't think I'll ever play again," Pettitte told ESPN recently.

According to the New York Daily News, Pettitte denied to comment about his future Tuesday when attending the "Pro Athletes in the Line of Fire" event, a feature at the World Police and Fire Games.

Pettitte, 39, won 240 games during his 16 seasons in the majors. The three-time All-Star spent 13 of those seasons with the New York Yankees, with whom he won five World Series championships. The other three seasons were spent with the Houston Astros.

In what might prove to be his final season in the majors, Pettitte went 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 21 starts for the Yankees in 2010.
