Is it? I used to collect (maybe 10 years ago). I figured that market was over and my collection was basically worthless.

Graded before '74 is pretty good still. After that, dicey at best.

i saw an ad where topps was bringing back some classics.....seems like i heard a million cards total? i think they're packaging them with the new ones, so you might get a pleasant surprise if you still buy baseball cards

It is actually called the Topps Million Card Giveaway. They insert a card with a code and you enter the code on a their website. You will get some vintage Topps cards and also have a chance at getting a 1952 Mantle but all the codes that I have entered have been no name guys. These cards are inserted 1 in every 6 packs of 2010 Topps Baseball Series 1 and 1 in every pack of the Topps Series 1 Jumbo Hobby boxes. I find it better to just sell these coded cards on ebay. I sold an 11 card lot for $60.

I wouldnt say it's that strong.

The only thing I have had interest in that past several years is autograph & game used memorabilia inserts...........

I would agree with that. I like to open all the new products looking for the autos and game-used. I like to collect all the Detroit teams (Red Wings, Tigers, Lions and Pistons) players and have quite a few autos and game-used of each one.

Not worhless autographs are the ones you get an athlete to sign in person that you can't prove and always get that look or thought from someone when you try telling them "I got LeBron James to sign this one" so & so place.

The autos & game-used cards in these packs are authentic, stamped, and numbered.

It's the millions & millions of different rookie cards from various companies now that are worthles imo, no matter how low they are numbered to.

I pulled both Michael Jordan AND Penny Hardaway Autograph Redemption cards in a sports store in the mall the first year Upper Deck SPX put them out & I got $3500 for the Jordan and $500 for the Hardaway later on (They were booking $5,000 and $1000) so I wouldn't call that worthless......

There are a lot of fakes on ebay and even at some auction houses. I found some guy on ebay who was selling a base card of Barry Sanders with an autograph of Barry on it. The problem with this card was that it looked like the guy signed it himself and I even asked him that. I had Barry sign a jersey for me in person and I paid about $170 for him to do it (my current avatar) and the auto on this guy's card looked nothing like the real Barry auto. He then immediately removed the auction.

I also follow a guy on youtube who exposes these ebay sellers who are scamming people with fake autographs. You just have to watch what you buy and who is selling it to you. If it is a photo, baseball, football, jersey, etc.; make sure it is authenticated by someone like PSA/DNA.

Exactly tenman and that's why I've never ever had any interest in autographed cards, framed pictures, balls, etc. from these types of places.

Thats what makes the autographed & game-used memorabilia cards inserted in the sports card packs so good because they are numbered, stamped, or authenticated in some form so there is never a question......

I think you missed my point. They used to be worth something before every company started to put them in their product. If you had them now what do you think they would be worth?

I can get a Derek Jeter game used auto'd card for $15 or so and I can pick from about 500 of them on eBay. Not exactly rare...

goblue you wont sniff a derek jeter game used auto for $15 try 6 x 7 times that amount. Jeter autos can be had for around $100 depending on the brand and quantity made. Non rookie autos always have a steep drop off compared to 1st year autos

scoops as for your mariano, he doesnt sign much, but without a coa from a reputable company, you would be hard pressed to really get anything for it

rookie autos in baseball are still king, look up the rare young guys in the past few yrs in bowman chrome, nice lincecum, heyward, pujols rc autos sell for 4 figures

The Heyward Bowman Chrome and Donruss Elite cards are unreal right now.

I know a guy who pulled a 2007 UD Exquisite Rookies Lincecum Quad Patch auto that was #'d 1/1 and he sold it for $2,475.00 and he probably should have gotten more.

I was just about to say that about the Jeter auto card. If someone can get one for $15 and they are authentic, then I need to find out who that is because I would buy as many as I could.

I have the following Jeter auto from UD SPx and it is worth a little over a $100:
