Nice Jonah job. AJ is bound to throw a gem today now that you made the above post. :lolBIG:

Seriously, while those stats are telling, they certainly do not preclude Yanks win today. I am anxious to see how Jon Lester is going to perform in what for him is a very stern test and an important opportunity to launch the 2010 season off with a bang. I have more confidence in John Lackey pitching well on Wednesday than on any thing happening in this series..

Early April in Fenway is tough on all pitchers, young, old, stars or average Joe's..An outstanding performance out of Lester will send a signal to The American League that sweeping the Bosox will not be easy with their staff.

The beauty is the top four are all signed to the clup from now until mid decade. That includes Clay Bucholtz who still has not reached arbitration yet and plans on being part of the team for several more seasons.

Sox rotation salary and years remaining on contract.

John Lackey: Signed through 2014 for $82.5 million.
Josh Beckett: Signed through 2014 for $80 million.
Jon Lester: Signed through 2013 for $28.75 million with a $13 million option for 2014.
Daisuke Matsuzaka: Signed through 2012 for $28 million
Tim Wakefield: Signed through 2011 for $5 million

***Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Another example, Johnson (Marlins) was undefeated lifetime v. Mets yesterday.
Johnson got lit up, as Carl S. stated past performance is not indicative of future results.

burnett on the road vs the AL East has gone under 9 1/2 runs during his career in 17 out of 26....if you eliminate last season's 6-3 to the over, burnett has seen the total go under 9 1/2 runs in 14 of 17 games (2004-2008)

jon lester has gone under today's posted total at home vs the AL East 11 out of 16 times going back to 2007, including 1-5 (to the under) last season

Interesting article I read last night at the Miami Herald website, on Burnett's struggles against Boston:

<!-- end /production/story/credit_line_format.comp -->"A.J. Burnett tries to get the New York Yankees their first win of the season this evening when they continue their three-game season- opening series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Burnett, one of New York's big offseason acquisitions a year ago, enjoyed an up and down first year in pinstripes. At times Burnett looked like the best pitcher in baseball, but at other times he was just awful, as he battled his way to a 13-9 campaign to go along with a 4.04 ERA.

A lot was made of Burnett's preference to throw to backup catcher Jose Molina throughout the season, rather than to Jorge Posada. The numbers seemed to indicate as much, as opposing hitters batted .270 off Burnett in the 16 starts that Posada caught, and just .221 in 11 starts with Molina.
This year, though, it will be Posada behind the plate and the two insist they are on the same page.

"It's perfect," Posada said. "Let's get it out of the way right away. I'm looking forward to it."

The low point in the relationship may have occurred at Fenway on August 22 when Burnett was hammered for nine runs in five innings. He was also hit for eight runs in five frames in a game in Boston on April 25.

"For me, I think it took on a bigger picture because we're in New York,"
Yankee manager Joe Girardi said. "It was an emotional time, and fighting for the division and nearing the playoffs, it became a big story. As far as them having a problem, I wasn't concerned about that. I didn't necessarily see a huge problem."

Prior to last season Burnett had been 5-0 against the Red Sox, but went 0-2 against them a year ago with an 8.85 ERA.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Jon Lester, who was 15-8 last season with a 3.41 ERA. His career-high 225 strikeouts were also the third most in the American League.

Lester, who pitched to a 1.93 over his final six home starts last year, is 3-1 lifetime against the Yankees with a 3.88 ERA in eight starts.

Boston rallied to win the opener of this set on Sunday, as Dustin Pedroia delivered the tying two-run homer in the seventh inning and Kevin Youkilis scored on a passed ball later in the frame helping the Red Sox overcome a four-run deficit in the 9-7 win.

"It's special, they won the World Series last year, they're the champs," Pedroia said. "Everyone's going after them. We're just first on their schedule."

Boston starter Josh Beckett was lifted after allowing eight hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings, while New York's CC Sabathia was removed after giving up six hits and five runs in 5 1/3 frames.

"I was behind (in the count) a lot today," Sabathia said. "I had good stuff early, but was trying to nibble a little too much. I had the lead and probably should have just thrown the ball over the plate instead of pitching a little too much. It hurt me tonight."

Hideki Okajima (1-0) finished out the top of the seventh to get the win. Jonathan Papelbon notched the save by retiring Curtis Granderson on a ground out with the tying run at the plate.

Chan Ho Park (0-1) failed to hold the lead in the seventh inning and suffered the loss in the opener of the three-game series. Posada finished with three hits and a pair of RBI.

This is the second of 18 meetings between the AL East foes. Boston won its first eight matchups against the Yankees last season, but New York rallied to win nine of the final 10 meetings to even up the season series for the second consecutive year.

Why is every Yankees/Boston game seem like slow-pitch softball? Just hard to watch.
