Just got back from Smart n' Final(bulk food store).

While I was waiting in line the guy in front of me has a bunch of boxes of individual chip bags and a bunch of boxes of candy bars. So I think 'oh this guy must run a vending machine business'. Then he goes to pay and try's to swipe his card in the machine, It won't read it so he has to give it the cashier and he says "oh it's food stamps" and lets the guy pay with it.

I don't understand how this guy is allowed to do this?

You can buy what you want with the welfare, not beer and cigs, but whatever food you want. Lobster tails are fine, it's food.

I use to buy stamps 20 years ago ( half price), when they were actual stamps.

Guess so, The cashier said all they can do it print an extra receipt and call some number that never does anything about it.

Ok, I might as well add to this...............

I'm in a Supermarket the other day, and a Guy that is in the next Lane is Buying like 6 LARGE cans of Coffee Mate ( non-dairy coffee creamer )
3 Large Boxes of Tea.... 4 Large Cans of Coffee, couple of Boxes of Sugar and a Box of Sweet & Low

He Also Paid for this stuff with a Welfare Card..... :ohno:

Looks like he had some kind of Coffee Business

Or maybe he bought the $50 welfare card for $25 since unks need cash for their next fix. Could be a possibility...

No, He Looked the part.

and the cashier looked like she knew him.

Maybe he was buying the stuff for someone else, charging Half or something.

Nothing wrong with parlaying your money or food stamps.

Beating the system is harder now with debit cards, should be somewhat traceable.

Back say 1993, there were books of foodstamps with denominations like $1-5-10-20 etc.

I don't remember what came in books, but only the brown $1 stamps were cool out of the book. These things looked something like US currency, but smaller ( maybe 2.5" by 5"). Maybe a purple one was $5, a green $10, and $20 orange....or something.

Say the book had $80 in stamps, it was worth $40 in cash on the street.

I used to buy them, and buy groceries with them.

Way tougher now. A guy buying vending type stuff at S&F Iris or Costco....is probably the real recipient, and selling it to his vending machine guy in the parking lot at half price, then buying cigs, beer, drugs,etc....once he cashes the "stamps".

Just my guess of how it works today....but I'm likely correct.

Harder for sure....maybe less than 50% now ?

I don't know, but that's my guess.

There is other shit called WIC.....only good for like baby formula, and specific shit like that

WIC is like Women with Infants and Children.....something like that....real specific as to what you can get....a 72 pack of 1 ounce Planters peanuts won't cut it.

That is 100% right on BAS !

You give some POS say $300 a month in Welfare , the equivelent of physical food stamps of the 70's - 90's

They sell it at half price, and buy cigs, beer, crack, pot, coke, liquor, lottery tickets, or go to the casino. Gone in a day.

I guess I'm a POS for buying the old stamp books in a way also, but I'm over it ( already).

The vending machine guy ( don't we have one here ?) that is "helping" these guys......Hhhhhm, I don't know what to do with this guy ( I sort of was this guy , in a way).

Did the vendor even commit a crime ? He didn't use the "stamps" fraudulently. Once the welfare guy buys his Shit legally, can he not choose to sell it for cash ?

Sleazy, but is it illegal ?

I was thinking more like he was buying this with the "stamps" and then going and running his own route taking 100% profit

nope, the vending guy is getting his stuff cheaper by using bums to buy for him. Probably not facing too much Shit if caught, but that's my take on it.

The vending guy himself is not the food stamp recipient. He just helps others abuse the system.

My take on it.

How do you do that ?

You need to be somewhat of a businessman to get machines and a route, and stuff.....100k startup ?. more ?

Surely the vendor gets bums to buy his candy bars and peanuts, pays less, to make an extra buck.

Your probably right. I didn't think about the start up cost. Not sure it's a 100k but still if your on food stamps I guess you don't have the money to buy the route in the first place.

No probably about it, You can get druggies to buy the product at half price.

A bonus if you vend, or just like....eat food, instead of shoot drugs.

I'm sure you can get a stamper to buy your shit at 50%, in any city.

I don't live ghetto. ( anymore)

It's a vendor buying from a Welfare bum, not a Bum with a vending company.

i could write you guys a book on this, i own a convenience store and see it all..

i run the cars thru the machine and i can see what the people have left, some figures are astonishing.

one woman, who has 4 kids gets $1165 per month, just for food, this is not welfare or anything else, just food.

another lady, who has only 3 kids, gets $1200 per month just to eat.

these figures astonish me but i see it all day long, hundreds of people getting from $400-$800 monthly just to eat.

the lady that gets $1200 per month sells off enough each month to pay her utility bills, she said they cannot eat $1200 per month.
