Since their inaugural year, I have watched the Rockies religiously. On average, I attend at least 40 home games and even travel to see them on the road occasionally. I like to think I have a pretty good feel for the team. In the past, I have toyed with playing only Rockies games. I kept records for a couple years, but inevitably got busy and stopped keeping track a couple months into the season. I did rather well when keeping a record, and I’m pretty sure I would have continued to fare well had I kept track.

This year, I’m going to try and track all my plays here at The RX. I will only bet Rockies games. As much as it pains me, I will also bet against them when I see a spot this year. In the past, I simply didn’t play the game when I felt the Rox would lose, so this will be a bit strange for me. For my own sanity I'm justifying this by thinking it's a long season, and not like betting against the Buffs or Broncos where every game means a lot.

I try and use Matchbook as much as possible. However, I usually have to make my plays early in the morning as I am unable to do so at work, and Matchbook typically doesn’t have too active a market that early in the day. As such, I will post my plays with Bet Phoenix’s number.

My plays will range from 1-3 units. Below is what I’ve played so far this season, and WILL NOT be counted in my record:

4/5 3* Rockies +110 +3.3
4/6 1* Brewers -1.5 +140
+1.4
4/7 1* Rockies -107 -1.07
4/9 2* Rockies -170 +2.0
Total: +6.63

First play coming shortly…

4/10 Padres (Latos-R) @ Rockies (Hammel-R)

Rockies -164 *1 (saw some 145 at MB earlier)

This seems like a lot to put on an end of the rotation guy like Hammel, but this is more of a play against the SD lineup than anything else. SD's lineup could be the most anemic in the NL. Add to that the fact that SD has not been home since February, and I think you've got an already stale lineup looking forward to finally going home on Monday. After the Rox dropped 2 of 3 to the Brewers, I thought they'd sweep the Pads coming home. One more thing: the Rox have only faced one Righthander this year. Today they get their second. They've struggled against Lefties in the past, and coupled with being rested and at home after a long Spring Training (many of the players make off-season home in CO), I think they get to Latos early today.

Hey Go Rockies and Go Buffs!

Agreed! Wish the Buffs would have gotten rid of Hawkins. I'm an alum and a supporter. I work up North and hit golf balls daily at The Legacy during lunch. Coach Mac is there just about every day. The guy is still a coach - he's always talking to the younger guys on the driving range about school/college etc. Wish he'd come back.

I don't know how to edit my thread title to reflect my record, so if anyone knows, please advise.

YTD 0-1; -1.64

Rough one yesterday. The defense and pitching kept the Rox in it, but when your 1-4 goes a combined 1-23 with one walk, you aren't going to win - regardless of who you play. Tulo seems to be back in his typical April slump, which is very disappointing. Everyone in this town is waiting for that guy to put together a full year.

Anyway, today we have Jimenez v Garland. With the bullpens being taxed yesterday, how deep these starters go is going to be important. Jimenez went 6 with 99 pitches last time out; Garland went 4 with 85 pitches. Not only is Jimenez expected to pitch well over 200 innings this year, but Tracy has proved that he does not have a quick hook and will let his guys work out of trouble if they get into it. Last year, Jimenez struggled in the early innings, but usually settled in and got better as the game went on. If he's going to be that true "ace" that everyone expects, this is the type of game where they need him to step up. I think he does. If it weren't for bats (and I'm not sure if Helton's even playing today), I would make this a 2 or 3 unit play. That being said, I'll just put one on the R/L.

Rockies -1.5 -115; 1 unit

I wanted to say a quick note about what happened in the off-shore/forum world this weekend. I know I don't post a lot, but I have been around for a long time, and you get to a point where you feel like you know a lot of the people behind the keyboard. I was very saddened to hear about Shrink and Scarlett's passing. My thoughts are with their friends and family.

Have a good Sunday everyone. I'm off to play golf - mid 70's and sunny in Denver today!

I am a new alumni. Just went to the spring game yesterday. I've got to say I'm pretty optimistic but it remains to be seen if we can actually put it all together in a game. That's great to hear about Coach Mac. I wish he could come back and work in some capacity. I'm headed to the Rockies game today... not a better place on earth than Colorado.

Record YTD: 1-1 (-.64 Units)

Mets come to town today. Both starters, Mayne and Smith, are definitely not at the top of their team's rotation. Mayne's career seems to be on a steady downward trend since his '07 campaign, and he's been losing speed on his fastball during this time period. Smith did not have a start in '09, and despite his 16 losses in '08 he really didn't have that bad a year. He was shaky in his first start this season against the Brewers giving up a three run homer in the first before settling in. I'm a bit worried that the Rox are finding themselves in familiar territory this year with certain guys starting a bit slow a slow. I know we're not even 10 games in, but it seems this is a cycilical thing with this team. Gonzalez tweaked a hammy on Sunday, and there's no word as to whether or not he'll play. With the Rox bats the way they are right now, I just cannot see laying the -145 or so with Smith on the mound. Hate to do it, but I'll take the Mets tomorrow.

Mets +132 1 unit

I graduated about 10 years ago, and miss Boulder a lot. Are you working yet?

I think they'll be okay if Hawkins decides on a QB quickly.
