I thought the birdie putt on number 12 was his shot of the day. Now granted he did hit that great shot out of the trees and IF he had made the putt for Eagle than yes that would have been the Shot Of The Day. But at that stage of the Tournament when Westwood and Mickelson were dueling back and forth, I think after that birdie at Amen Corner, Mickelson knew in his heart of hearts that he was playing some of the best golf of his career.
The shot through the Trees was Amazing ! and yes, if he had Eagle the putt..it would have been the Shot of the day.
Some junks getting ready to hit the fan about Phil here very soon. Its been hidden 3-4 years ago but they are gonna bring up the new stuff now which is totally private and nothing like what Tiger has done. Sorry for the people that has been whiping phils bootie!! Helluva round by Phil yesterday to get his 3rd Greenie though!! He had 3 g's bet on Westwood so he got ahead pretty good there!!
The junk that you referring to. Does it concern Sports Illustrated and Ford?
Being a "lefty" myself I was glad to see Phil win. But I think winning at Augusta was a very good example that there are horses for courses. Like Mickelson said, Augusta is a pretty forgiving course when he's not totally "on the mark" with his driver. And it totally favors his game. The US Open, and many times the PGA isn't usually so forgiving. Phil will need to tighten it up with his driver if he hopes to win more than just the the Masters this year. Having said that, I was glad to see Phil get another major under his belt. I've followed him around twice in tournements. And the amount of talent he has in shaping the ball along with his short game is simply amazing when you see it in person.. When he gets in trouble is when his on course gambles don't work. For the most part he's learned to harness those temptations. But if he knew then what he knows now, I firmly believe he would be giving Tiger a run for his money in major wins.
VD...I can think of a lot of majors over the years where Mickelson ended up 2nd or 3rd because he freewheeled it around the course thinking he could do anything. The US Open a couple years ago was a good example of it. In his overconfidence in his abilities he pulls out a driver instead of a 3 wood on the 18th tee and then sprays it left. And it costs him a major. He was even worse at taking gambles early in his career. I think if he had played the game he plays now he woud have had at least 5 to 7 more majors on his resume. Which would have put him at around 10 majors. Not far behind Woods. And Woods may have won a couple less majors if Mickelson had played his cards right. I've follwed both of these great golfers around, and I see very little difference in their games. I think the biggest difference between the two is what happens above the shoulders. Woods is just very good at thinking his way around the course, and at the same time getting inside opponents heads. I'm starting to wonder a little if Woods has lost a some of his edge over his opponents. I guess we'll find out this year after Woods gets a few more tournaments under his belt..I am also lefty GoSooners but thinking Phil gives him a run in major tournaments, it ain't going to happen...:toast:
