There has been some speculation that the Nats would look elsewhere, since a handful of scouts are down on Harper. But Goessling hears that the Nationals see the youngster as being "head and shoulders" above the rest of the upcoming draft's talent pool. Harper is batting .422/.516/.891 with 15 homers and 42 RBI through 39 games at the College of Southern Nevada.

I don't know what scouts are down on him but they're morons. A 17 year old with numbers like that in high school are insane let alone in college. A year or two in the minors and he will be up.

This kid is a stud.. I began watching "Prodigy" videos of this kid on Youtube when he was like 14-15.. He's like the next Mauer, except with mad power.. or so they say. I saw him hit a homer about 480 feet when he was 16 (Metal bat, but still).. Kid's got talent.

Uh, yeah.. I originally said 480 because I didn't wana say 500 and have it be less, but it was actually 502 in TB.. And he also his a 570 footer in an actual game. Early in the 2nd video they walk the course that the ball took..

He has the longest throwing motion I have ever seen in a catcher.

No way he stays at that position in the pros.

Interesting bump here.

Was he ever a catcher in the minor leagues or just straight outfielder?

I am amazed that Boras clients haven't moved on to new clients. He cost JD millions last year. He cost jackpot sum of about 53 millions for Greg Holland last year when boras advised him to reject and Wade Davis scooped up that offer. Greg Holland ended up getting 15 million last year and now 3.5 million for this year. Boras was milking the mlb cashcow when old school guys were in the management but now teams are smart with analytics and Boras is very poor at reading the market still playing the old style tactics which wont fly. He should have advised Harper to take the 300 million Nationals were offering, maybe Harper might be able to pull little more if lucky but the longer he waits, the less number of teams to buy him and they can lower the price. Machado especially should have taken the early best offer. Philly would have paid him 250 million if he signed right away but now its going to be hard to even get 200 million.
