You may want to try an online proxy service just to be sure.

If you're on a laptop posting from, say, a Starbucks or something of that sort, YOU cannot be traced. Only the location.....In other words, the IP address would come back to the Starbucks location, that is it.
Administrators of such forums CANNOT pinpoint an exact address and/or identity of a poster. They can narrow down location and the IP service provider. An IP provider would not turn over the identity of an IP address to a forum just for the hell of it. If there were threats or other such reasons for pursuing an identity, it would have to be done so by a legal means.

There was a case here in Arizona where a guy was going to a library and posting threats to a woman. Little did he know that he was being video taped.
The lady went to the cops and they were able to get a tape of the perpetrator based upon his IP address. They lady identified the guy as someone who harrassed her in the past and he was arrested and the tape was shown on the evening news.
I suppose if it were a mobile device the cell provider would know who had a particular IP address assigned to that person's device.
Like another Poster said, it won't give an Address...But it will give the Location to the Closest Cell Tower....Then Bounce off that and tell me what Town you are in.
It will give me this Info as well.

I wouldnt post from a phone , phones have names attached to them. Laptops don't. Just make sure your using an IP other then your home (If doing something you shouldnt) I would also suggest using a Random IP changer/hider. Not to sure if the mods here can get around those but I use it for downloading purposes seems to fool google lol.
Its not near as exact as BAS thinks it is, iphones and blackberries will often provide ips from the other side of the country, and the vbulletin IP tools are crap in general. BAS is just happy because he didnt even learn how to spell IP until after he got this job
