This was something of an unexpected move, but with Chris Getz heading to the DL, the Royals front office must have felt it was necessary for depth. Gordon had been slated to continue his rehab in Triple-A, but will now rejoin the Royals instead. It's somewhat surprising that they would push up Gordon's timetable this way instead of recalling Mike Aviles, but if Gordon is ready, he's certainly the stronger third baseman of the two. Given Gordon's abbreviated spring training and his suddenly shortened rehab stint, don't be surprised if it takes him a few days to get back into the swing of things.
