Razor sharp number, it all depends how many games the Sox beat NYY.

Crapshoot at that number but I would wager Red Sox brass would take 95 wins right now and take what they get as far as playoffs go. Injuries to key players (same with all teams) could effect final number..

Obviously a big year out of John Lackey and the other two keys to their rotation Jon Lester and Josh Beckett are key. Throw in closer Jonathon Papelbon to the mix and there is the key to Boston's chances of maintaining their 95 win seasons.

They open against the Yanks with Beckett - Lester - Lackey. Word is Lackey is happy as a clam as the # three man. Who wouldn't for $82.5M.

So far Lackey has impressed the Red Sox with how efficiently he works, throwing strike after strike and getting his defense off the field.

wil.

Yankees didnt seem to make the most impressive offseason moves, may have taken a half step back. no bet for me on Boston, no bet either on Rays or Yanks, but I think bet on Tampa over, NY under better than betting Boston either way.

Rays have a very nice team again

Picking up Granderson to replace Melke is a half step back?

definately looking to play Rays when they play Red Sox. Varitek and Martinez cannot throw anyone out. Fast Rays are going to run run run on Boston and their is nothing red sox can do about it. Rays are going to drive the red sox completely nuts I think

With that pitching.. both starting and bullpen.. tough to take under even on such a high number. I mean.. Beckett Lester Lackey tough to find a better 1-2-3 than that. Okajima Bard and Pap still back there.

Only weakness people seem to be pointing out is the hitting, which was very bad at times last season. I dont really see it though.. Youk, Ellsbury, Victor Martinez and Pedroia seems pretty solid. Then you have Papi, JD Drew, and Adrian Beltre as your "second-tier" hitters, and they can all hit home runs even if they are regressing. Getting Jed Lowrie back will also help out the lineup. Not too many weaknesses on this team, barring injuries.

I played Rays to win WS tonight at 20-1. I like them a lot. Obvious problem, they may not make playoffs. If they do, lookout.

Red sox will be fine. Nice looking team. I'll be looking to bet the Rays vs the skankies too

All off season, I tried to convince people that the Red Sox would suck.

... but NO ... the Red Sox conjured up the perfect scam by convincing these people that they were into RUN PREVENTION ... and provided the minions with numbers to prove it.

They tried to convince people that Drew was a Top 5 outfielder (Theo tried this on WEEI), that Scutaro was a defensive upgrade from Gonzalez and Jason Bay was a defensive liability.

Well, you can only convince people that you're really good if you don't have to play the games ... and once the season has started, we get to see that the Red Sox really do suck.

So are the Theo Epstein supporters still holding out hope that they can get into the playoffs? At this rate, they will NOT.

... and the great thing is that they can't blame Manny anymore ...

Still early, but slowly but surely trading Manny is coming back to haunt this club.........and may be the case for quite sometime.

And so it goes......

I agree. This team is poorly put together. They will will be playing for third place in the AL East.

Mike Cameron could never hit a lick....he'd be worthless if not for his defense....that was there worst signing.
Jeremy Hermidia is a completely uselss bum
Adrian Beltre is a very average player as far as 3rd basemen go
Scuturo is a slightly below average player who overachieved last year
Bill Hall? They have to be joking.
Ortiz is all roided out

They signed a bunch of bums and they're already paying for it.

When V Martinez starts hitting and if Ortiz and Beltre can contribute they'll be okay because of the pitching....but some of those signings were sheer incompetence. Not many reclamation projects work out and they took too many chances.

As an M's fan I feel sorry for you that you are stuck with both Cameron AND Beltre. Both guys are good with the glove, but they will drive you up the frigging wall with the bat.
