In fact, they should be thanking him form the bottom of their hearts and sending him thank you notes for bringing two world championships to Boston after not having one since 1918.

...........One of Theo's biggest blunders as a GM was getting rid of this guy.

Could be a long, long time before the BOSOX return to championship form.

disagree !

no hustle, steroid user, a cancer on the team.

best move ever to dump his ass at any cost. He's not bigger than the team.

He'd be the type to hit the showers immediately if replaced late in a game, and go home, while the game is still going.

People said the same thing in '04 when they got rid of Nomar. Granted it is taking more than 3 months to win it all but I think they did the right thing.

They may have done the right thing, but that doesn't mean I'd ever speak badly about Manny. I agree /w OP that Manny meant much more to the team's mechanics than people give him credit for.

This is similar to the Dan Duquette thing, and how I always stuck up for him as he has just as much to do /w the first WS win as Theo did.

Who said Manny was a cancer?

Theo and the Sox spread the rumors to justify trading him.

There goes the Theo Kool-Aid at work again.

Once you put a player on waivers you've got to some kind of dumb to expect him to be a model citizen.

Manny was rude to Theo. Tough.

Do you think Lowell will be any different to Theo in private?

Just because he helped them win a couple championships doesn't mean it was wrong to get rid of him. Can't live in the past. Gotta move on. Sports are about collecting the next crop of talent and winners, not hanging on to past winners.

There was no question there was controversy. To accept a likelihood that Jason Bay was a better fit than a controversial Ramirez is not speaking negatively

It was a question. Get it?

Who said he was a cancer?

Sean McAdam wrote about Manny's attitude problem once. Know when that article came out? The day after the Yanks swept them in a rare 5 game series and knocked them out of the playoffs.

Again. It's not a joke. Answer the question.

I agree.

The problem is that they let go of Bay. They claimed that by getting Cameron, they would PREVENT runs.

It's all PR and Kool Aid.

some people really have no idea and comment without actually going thru real life...they base their comments on their current feelings and thats it...

my grandfather died a couple years before the RS won a WS, he was his 80's so he would spit in the face of people here b/c he NEVER saw one and he LOVED the red sox. he was one of those who on his deathbed would have answered what would you like before you die and his answer would have been to see the red sox win a WS. so to hear people bicker in threads about this move and that move and this signing and that signging.....seriously disgust me...b/c the bottom line is 6 years ago anyone here in the boston area woulda traded 20years of futility for 1 WORLD SERIES, we got 2....yet people are spoiled, the bottom line is theo brought us 2 WS and ill leave my trust in him...

i agree with fishead id never boo manny in a million years and we owe him a 10minute standing ovation come june!!

ill also go to my grave and say drew earned every cent in boston on 1 HR v cleveland b/c he got us to the WS and we won a 2nd WS b/c of that 1 HR

This is untrue... I love Boston, and lived there the first 28 years of my life - BUT, the Red Sox are one of the most frustrating (and at times laughable) organizations there is, and add to that Sox fans are some of the most moronic fans (not ALL, but such a high proportion).

And as far you chiding us for "bickering" over this, it's not bickering - it's discussion. Now go on being disgusted.

Not a Red Sox fan but I sure loved/love watching Manny hit. Of course the steroids did help.

For the first time in a long time, I agree with Fishhead...

Sox fans should get down on their knees...

For what it's worth, I have been a Red Sox fan for as long as I remember but I am not the type that will give Theo a lifetime contract just because of 2004.

Theo gets paid to do a job and people pay to watch a game.

I am not going to pay $150 for two useless tickets and say it's ok to lose just because of 2004 or 2007. Living in New England, I have heard dozens of grandfather stories. That's great. It just doesn't mean people should milk it with a lifetime contract.

I remember when the Phillies won the 1980 World Series...fans loved Paul Owens and Dallas Green and to this day they are loved....after going thru the 1964 Philly team, this was the pinnacle, especially since I was at the clinching game against the Royals...just made the last few years sweeter....

I hope to see a team like Cleveland win a world title in some major sport...then the fans would know how the red sox and Philly fans feel...

I was referring to Theo spreading rumors.

There was no need to. He started going off the deep end. Almost getting into a fight with Youk. on the bench, pushing McCormick (Traveling Secretary) to the ground in the clubhouse because he wouldn't give him "enough free tickets" to an upcoming game. (BTW, he is about 70-75 years old)

I do agree with the Kool-Aid comment completely though.
