I think it's a little early for either of them to be considered for termination... I will say Theo should be the first to go, as Francona has done a really good job in the past managing personalities & such (and is really just trying to play the cards dealt to him at this point).

For whatever reason, the entire team is slumping at the moment. Tito has been a very good manager for the Sox. No way should he be fired. Theo has rolled the dice somewhat the past year or two, and things may not work out as he hoped but IMO he's done a decent job and even if the Sox tank this year he shouldn't be fired.

I'm a Yankee fan who's lived in the Boston area for 32 years now. As an organization, the Sox are so much better off than they used to be. No need to panic, the Yankess have gotten off to plenty of slow starts and still made the playoffs.

Way too early for this kind of dumb talk. Ellsbury has been out and it's not like the Rays and gayYankees won't hit some slumps too. Sox will be just fine.

If I remember, last season about this time through May they were saying the same thing about Cashman and Girardi.

"Neither should be fired" turned out pretty well for them in the long run.

Absolutely right, everyone had Yandees dead and buried last May. That said, Sox are out of playoffs this year, not saying because of this TB series, said it b4 season started. just not feeling it for them this year, the Lackey trade bugs me to no end. Then again, I said same last year. Sox go 85-72 and may come in 4th in AL East.

Agreed. Baseball is a long season. Way too early...

Sox will be just fine.
I'm not as sure about that...

You gotta score runs in the AL East and I'm not sure who besides Youk and Pedroia scares you in that line-up. Manny is gone. They didn't replace Bay. Big Pappi is done with a capital D. I'm not sure you can pitch it and play defense well enough to win in the AL East with no more offense than they got right now. Add Jermaine Dye to the line-up and maybe it looks a little differently...

Get rid of Ortiz...How can everyone see how shitty he is but they still keep him in the lineup. You can replace him with a AAA player and they would be better off. He sucks

I think Theo has lost his touch with the team a couple years ago. He's been off his game for a while with these veteran bum signigns. As for Francona, he's a hell of a manager.

Red Sox reportedly to pick up Francona's option

By Evan Drellich / MLB.com

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Not thought to be in peril when it comes to his job security, manager Terry Francona will have his contract extended when this season ends, according to an Internet report.
Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman said via Twitter that Francona's two-year option at $4.5 million per year would be activated after this season. The Red Sox have not commented on the report, and Francona told Heyman he was unaware of the decision.
General manager Theo Epstein's own deal is reported to expire after the 2011 season, though team owner John Henry said earlier in the week he didn't know when Epstein's contract was up.
It would be hard to imagine either the manager, who took over after the 2003 season, or general manager, who is entering his ninth season in the position, leaving since they've worked together superbly.
"The biggest way you can judge it is that we're going on our eighth year now in a really crazy place, and if you didn't have an extremely strong relationship, you'd have no chance in this market," Francona said after the club's workout Tuesday. "There's a lot of trust."
Of course, the two have had, and will continue to have, their disagreements. Francona said he has gone to Epstein and asked specifically for help, the rushing of Cla Meredith in 2005 being the oft-cited example -- but one has to believe it happens more than that.
"We have our moments. You're supposed to," Francona said. "I don't think he'd want to have somebody be the manager and not have a strong opinion, and I value his opinion a lot. He knows that. I also know when the chips are down in the really tough times, I know where I can turn."
Francona has a good perspective on his role compared to Epstein's. "I've learned a lot," Francona said. "Being a manager, you're worried about today. Being the general manager, you've got to be a little bit more of a caretaker of the organization. I've learned to respect that a little bit more. Opening Day is not the end of the world."
