I rarely go there, but when I do I get a green tea.

Very little effort in making my tea. I usually tip my change, but I can't see tipping a $1 for a $1.95 tea.

I actually think the workers at a lot of places like that would do a lot better if they just labeled the jar "spare change" rather than tips. Coffee shops, ice cream stands, gas station, McDonalds, newsstand. . .

I give the change...usually.

What I don't get though, is at a bar, most people gladly tip - at least - $1 per beer. That is WAY less effort than making a tea or latte!!

Those employees make less than $8/hour, I don't mind throwing in the change. If they get enough of those, their salary plus tips puts them well over $10/hour...which isn't too bad for working in a coffee shop....

Cocktail waitresses and bartenders are the most overpaid workers on the planet. And most of them are bad people. They expect that if they hand you a $2.50 bottle of Bud Light, that you give them $4 and let them keep a 60% tip. And then they complain and talk shit about you if you don't.

Agree completely. Although i am guilty of over tipping.

Most think they are entitled to that 50%+ tip.

Hell, also sporting events. Beers are $7.25 at a Reds game, ridiculous.

Hard to tip while paying what yo can get a 6 pack for, for 1 beer

I usually give it to them also. But only because I'm a wuss and I know it's expected. Much better to start a tab and then tip 20% at the end of the night. That's what everyone should do.

In some ways it is extremely fucked up that in some arenas tipping is not seen as optional. What is cool, is that using those services is completely optional

While I'll leave a big tip, the total money I spend on tipping is very low

There's a sandwich shop that I visit for lunch 2 or 3 times a week. The guys always treat me well so I tip them every time.

At a Chipotle restaurant the girl behind the counter always asks me how I'm doing and engages in small talk with me. I always tip her.

I would tip anyone who treated me like this but everywhere else I go the counter person is cold. No tip for you!

Edit: I forgot, there is a Quizno's by me and the ladies smile when I come in. I think it's because I make a big deal out of their smile and give them a dollar just for smiling.

Aside from waitstaff, tipping someone for just doing their job never made sense to me, at least here in America. If I notice they are somehow putting in extra effort, I will toss them a bone.
