The Cubs will move struggling starter Carlos Zambrano to bullpen as a setup man to make room for Ted Lilly in the rotation.
Manager Lou Piniella said Zambrano was fine with the decision.
"I'm confident this will help out situation out," Piniella said.
More to come on this story.

I wont disagree, its the Cubs you're talking about. They are sick of his 120 pitches in 5 innings, and bullpen collapses. What a mess.

dont like this idea at all.....

If you arent gonna have Zambo winning at least 14-15 games this year, you arent going anywhere anyway...

Kidman was right, after first rough outing, he has been fine, and looked REAL good Monday.....

The cubs problem is not their pitching (although i know they have had 7-8th inning issues) their problem is getting a friggin hit with men on base......i have seen them leave more men on 3rd with 1 out this year, than all of last year total it seems.....

If there are 2 outs, then 2 guys will get back to back hits, and next guy strikes out......so they get 2 hits in inning, NO RUNS.....if they get first man on, then next guy hits into double play.......last night, they get 2 on, 1 out, and get a runner picked off 2nd.....they just arent palying smart ball right now.....they are better than this...might not be better than the Cardinals, but they are better than they are showing....Byrd was a nice addition, Lee hitting well....Ramirez starting off slow, but you KNOW he will hit....Nady is a nice player, Soriano showing some pop again, Theriot is very dependable, good on base man, and Fontenot hitting very well....

they just arent hitting at the right time....

I would rather they put Gorzelany in the bullpen to add another lefty, unless he just adamant about not doing it.....leave the rotation as Zambo, Dempster, Lilly, Wells and Silva.....when someone gets hurt, you have Gorzy to step in, or even Marshall, who i have been touting for 2 years now, as a starter......this kid is a good pitcher, and with a chance would make a nice 4th/5th starter......

CUBS= Completely Useless By September. Looks like it's going to be earlier than that.

and on a side note, IF YOU are going to put Zambo in the bullpen, i can't really see him being anything but a closer......he is so fiery, he might make a good closer....but think he will lose interest in the 8th inning too easily.....i could see him being like a Mitch Williams, Mad Hungarian type.....

theres a lot more to this then simple demotion or trying to strengthen bullpen.

i see it playing out a couple ways.
1 team implodes and they firesale(if possible with how many horrible contracts they have)
2 lou just wants to get run out of town
3 they want zambrano to implode so they can move him

bucsfan as far marshall goes i like him in the pen he can pitch 4-5 a week easy and can extend 1-3 innings i know his body of work as a starter isnt much but he really hasnt had any success when given the chance and hes prob one of the best out of the pen

It's good to never have any expectations for your team going into the season. That way I do not question or become overly concerned about a mischievous move like this. Another wasted year for the Cubs. At least Soriano looks sharp in those white cleats....or not.

Maybe by doing this Lou is sending a message that nobody's job is safe.
At the very least now they have a right- hander who can get outs in the 8th inning.

Do you want Samardzija to keep getting the ball?
What are the other right-handed options for the 8th inning?

seems though, IF they wanted to strengthen bullpen, they would have moved Dempster back...he has already proven to be a very solid closer when Cubs needed him....

however, i guess the key point is, that Zambo was ok with the decision...maybe he feels he would be better there...but i just dont see him in the bullpen, IF NOT a closer....

we'll see....

Is it April 21 or April 1? Seriously, I think they are messing with people. I won't believe this until I see it. You're taking your opening day starter for the last 6 six years and putting him in the pen after 15 games? Not possible. If this is actually true, I'm beyond speechless and Lou has lost his marbles.

With big Z's attitude, he's probably pissed with this move. He'll probably tank it.
